How a Theft Got Me Hired

I just back from filling out some paper work today for my new job as a lifeguard, and my new boss mentioned that part of the reason she hired me had to do with a previous theft of my personal belongings. No, it wasn’t a pity hire, it was because she liked the way I had handled myself. Let me give you some back story.

A couple weeks ago, I went in for a lifeguard screening at one of the city pools. This consisted of some CPR and first aid work, an interview, and about five in-the-pool activities to demonstrate competence. After my CPR stuff and interview, it was time to get in the water. I put my car key, house key, certifications, driver’s license, twenty dollars, and some paperwork in the case of my pocket mask (something that is used for rescue breathing). When I got out of the water and was ready to go, everything was gone. I didn’t freak out, and I just let the people in charge know what happened, and we looked around for my missing items. Nothing could be found, so I left my contact information and called my neighbor so she could come and pick me up and I could go and get my spare key.

Luckily, everything got back to me in the end. But the point of all this was that at my job, my boss told me that she was so impressed with how calmly I handled the situation, that she had to give me the job. At the time, I was convinced that I would never see any of my things again, and it would be a huge headache to replace everything, but there was really nothing I could do about it. I always think that the best course of action is to keep a level head and do what needs to be done.

Wow. I would have taken my stuff and quit. You must be really desperate for money or really trust worthy. Its sad that things like that happen in todays society.

What? Did you read my post? For one, that has nothing to do with what I wrote, and two, I wasn't desperate for money, but my CAR KEY, driver's licence, certifications, and house key were kind of missing... I didn't really have any option about leaving. What do you mean by me being trust worthy?!? I really have no idea as to from where you got anything that you said.

Did you keep the job at the place the lady stole you stuff? Thats what i got from it. If someone stole my Car Keys license and house key i wouldn't work for them. ANYWAYS it was a good piece of writing.

OOOOOkay, I totally misunderstood what you meant. Sorry for my response. But, my stuff was taken by someone else who was at the screening by mistake, but we all thought that it was stolen. I eventually got my stuff back. And my new boss, she had nothing to do with it going missing. She was actually quite helpfull in helping me look around for it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
