Blinking the Present to the Past

I have noticed the undecisiveness in people; becoming desensitized, becoming there. Not finding a place to go or move in their life, but just being there. The world is so expansive and so many objectives to accomplish, and channels in which to travel that people don't explore. We've become present couches, not realizing we have to have a future, have to mature. Someone made fun of me today for taking my senior pics with my bible. I didn't get it, I still don't get it. Sure, you may not care, or believe in it, that's fine, but to laugh about it. I was so stunned at it all. I realized the maturity level of it all was quite absurd. And this girl has a child, now, i didn't retort to her that she got pregnant in high school, for that wouldn't be fair nor right. But, it wasn't even a laugh as in that's different, but one that contained harshness, you know? Wow, it was really really rude. We have to mature, grow mentally, and emotionally, be free of the present. Sure, it's good to think of the present, but we have to realize that the present only lasts so long until we blink and it's the past we locked in the attic. Hm.

I hate it when people bash our generation for being unmotivated and immature, but I have to admit that they might have a point. It just seems like people are becoming more and more apathetic as time goes on. I think it's partially because the in thing to do is be "aloof," like you don't care. Somehow, a lot of people I know think that's they way to be accepted. Maybe they don't motivate themselves and act maturely because they're afraid of leaving their comfort zone, afraid of being judged by others. So they cover that up by ridiculing others who have the courage to live out their own life, and do what they believe in. It just seems like tired out rhetoric, though.

And here's a shot for that older generation (like our parents) who complain about young people's apathy: I think, collectively, it's largely their own fault. Their peers are the ones who set apathetic and immature examples, like the mom who doesn't care about her kid's soccer game because she's too busy with her job, or the dad who won't take his son to the park because the football game's on.

Just some of my musings...
