Progress In our media is affecting our society

Our media seems to like the idea of progress for the sake of progress. They like this idea because they can make their products better therefore selling more. But this progress has been affecting our society in a negative way.

The entertainment industry has made so many hi-tech games that there is no need anymore for children to play outside. Many children, if allowed, would rather spend their time indoors playing video games.

Progress in the computer and networking industry has made the need for human interaction outside of the home unnecessary. Anyone can simply get on the computer and chat with other people across the internet. This eliminated the trouble of having to commute to interact with a friend, relative, or colleague.

While it may seem convenient and fun, these changes in our technology have made our society grow more and more lazy. We have also grown more and more dependent on gadgets like cell phones and computers to be able to interact with others.

What we need to keep in mind is moderation. Video games and the internet are okay but in large doses they can be harmful, making you lazy. Children should still play outside with friends just as everyone else should still get out of the house to have fun and be with others. Progress in technology can be helpful but it can also be harmful if we don't know how to handle it.
