There Is No Art Without Passion

It is very difficult to find an artist that moves me to tears with their music. I enjoy music from all walks-- but let's face it, when I'm listening to Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry I am not so overwhelmed with emotion.

It was today when I was playing The Dresden Dolls that I wanted to melt.  Amanda, the singer/piano player, sings with such raw emotion and passion that I can't help but shiver while my eyes well up with tears.  I can picture her singing, screaming, even moving with her piano as she expresses the most outward emotion that she can.

It is amazing how blinding and eye opening music can be.  It is the universal language, quite literally; no matter where you're from you can understand it in one way or another.

I am amazed that a human being can create such passion from their own hearts and that some people fail to see the power music can have.

I grow ever frustrated at people who refuse to hear music from other genres other than the one they identify with.  They don't realize how much passion there is outside of their own box; they don't realize that artists create with intentions, and most artists create with intentions other than "I want to make a buck with this CD."

I used to be the type that hated when people said they were fans of "everything."  It's funny, because now, I am that person.  I like Brand New, Kieth Urban, Nine Inch Nails, Morcheeba, Diana Krall; the list of artists from all different genres goes on and on.

I no longer see music as segregated other than Group One: Passion and Group Two: Fun.  [Of course there is a group that includes both Passion and Fun...] The way you differentiate the two is up to you and your interpretation.

I am not a fan of rock.  I am not a fan of hip-hop, country, jazz, or techno.  I am a fan of music.  I am a fan of Passion.

You know what? You're pregnant. That's right. You're gonna swell up and in 9 months push a human out from between your legs...

I'm influenced and moved by ALL kinds of music. The one that has most passion to me is Stacie Orrico's "Dear Friend" (the album is titled "Genuine").

I can't say I'm her hugest fan...

[I actually don't like her much, but that's based on morals, not style]

but it's cool that you can see more sides than your own.

I love the Dresden Dolls! :] Their self-titled CD is amazing, naturally, and when "Yes, Virginia" first came out, I listened to it over and over again for a while. Though I must say--and I know this is just the patriarchy speaking, but still--Amanda's hairy armpits?SCARE ME. Seriously. I don't know if you've ever seen the DVD (not the newer one, the first one), but there's this part where she's doing yoga... And every time I see it, I just can't help cringing.

Brand New's pretty good too, seen them twice.
And hooray for NIN! I'm a sucker for Trent Reznor.

It's definitely important to have eclectic taste in music!!

Their debut album is my favorite.

If she didn't have hairy armpits, she probably wouldn't be as cool... it grosses me out too though.

I saw them live and I almost climaxed watching her move along to her music (okay, maybe not quite... but you know what I'm saying ;))

I'm a sucker for passion. It's hard to find these days, but when someone has it, it's overwhelming. In a good way.

I liked the Dresden Doll's song about Coin Operated Boys.

Yes, I said it... now for those of you that haven't heard it go listen and then come back and discuss.
