GOD?

God
Well this is an issue I’ve had a lot of thinking about. If there is a God, and especially a Judeo Christian God, then I had better believe in him. If not, then I’d be wasting my time with this issue, just being irrational – which I despise more than anything else, even more than plain ignorance.
There are a lot of proofs for God, like the teleological and ontological, Avicenna, Pascal’s wager, etc. Hm…like they are strong but they all have holes in them. Plus none can link the existence of God with his omnipotent, omniscient, all-good characteristics that most religions hold. Why can God not be fallible? It would make a lot more sense, given all the problems with the world.
I’ve been to Jesus Club, or Lifeline Christian Fellowship, as the Christians call it, at my school several times, and to the early morning prayer circles. They are kind of weird, but that’s probably because I’m not Christian. But these people are extremely devout, pious, etc. and most of them haven’t even thought about their belief system, they just believe because they were raised that way. And they don’t even want to listen to other viewpoints, or holes in their belief system. So its basically blind belief = ignorance.
Does anybody have convincing arguments for God for me?

Most religion is blind belief. The only one that can convince you of a God or belief is yourself.

If you have the feeling that you should be a christian then you are right! That means that you fear God. We as chriatians are supposd to fear God. That is a very good thing. I am a christian. I believe whole heartedly in Jesus our wonderful and mighty savior! He died on the cross for us and he loves you! He loved you before you were even conceived. I know that there are non-christians everywhere. In order to become a christian, you not only have to truely belive, but you have to listen. God has a pupose for everyone. Even non-christains. It's we who choose if we want the life that God has for us, or if we want too make our own life. I belive that God wants me to become a missonary. He loves you. People say that Chriatians don't think about our belief but then why have I thought about it so much. I have thought about the love that I recieve from Christ since I was eleven and now I am nineteen. It just takes FAITH!

Quick note:

to fear God does not mean to be afraid of him!

Fear in this instance means to respect and obey like you would an influential authority figure in your life.

You would be surprised to learn that even those "pious and devout" Christians who have been in a church their entire lives have at some point questioned God's existence. For me ( I am both relational and logical) the facts put forward in the Bible are the bricks out of which my life, and my "religion" are built. Those facts are held together by the mortar of my faith.

That is really what it comes down to, you have to believe.

There is a lyric in a song by the band The Classic Crime that says

"I used to believe in some kind of feeling
that could change everything I thought I knew,
but that door is closing my heart feels like it's frozen
if you hear me I can't feel you"

This for me is probably my biggest stumbling block. You said you have been to bible studies and prayer times, so I am sure you have seen somebody moved to tears or heard someone say something like, "I was overwhelmed by the love of Christ... " I, and many others, aren't in touch with or emotions like that, so all I can do is have faith that God is there, and his love is there. That is why I get so appalled when people say ambiguous things like "you can feel that God is there"

sorry to write a novel...message me if you want to yell at me or ask q's

Mother Theresa even doubted for a long time her beliefs in God and wondered why she had such love for Him.

"Pascal’s wager" is not in any way a strong argument. It's total nonsense. It is the theological equivalent of saying, if I walk, I might fall, so I better lie down instead, because then I can't fall.

I had a lapse in faith about a year or so ago.
It's hard.
Knowledge is truly dangerous. I found the more I was learning the more I questioned, until it came to the maximum question of God.
The question that really got to me was that: If man has free will and is susceptible to temptation and deception, then what makes any of the Bible valid?...It could all just be ways to mislead those reading it.
After all this self-drama I slapped myself in the face and established my personal belief system: I am a Christian, non-denominational, self-sufficient, and still a believer.
Logically, if there is a God then I should believe in him and follow in his ways; if not then I need not worry because I still lead a somewhat pure life.
Spiritually, God is suppossed to be something that we don't understand. He doesn't expect us to understand but he would like a bit of faith until he can finally explain all of it to us.

God surpasses all knowledge we may obtain on Earth. We should fear him, but in a respectful not servile manner. Lead a life that attempts to be free of what the soul, mind, and heart depicts as sin.

well why should i believe...i mean besides people telling me that God loves me, etc.

people say that they feel god in themselves..i never had

That is where I am constantly struggling. For some I guess its not about a feeling, but something you really have to just know.
The only way to know is to learn, find a group of people who are there to help people answer the question of God, if there is a Young Life around you check it out. It is a great way to learn about why Christians believe what they believe without feeling like you are being pressured to do/say anything

I guess I've never really had a feeling persay
Its more like my self-consciousness is telling me its the only secure truth.
You can't really be cheated by faith in God....once we die we shall find out for sure.
