I remember when only corporate networks of computers needed to use an antivirus and we would only hear about hijackers hacking into a home computer every once in a while. Sure it was a big panick, but we all thought it wouldn't really affect us: "pshhh.. that's too bad, but i don't think it could affect my computer." Now nobody can live in the battlefield of the internet without a firewall and a good antivirus.
With all these new contraptions flying at us so quickly sometimes i can't help but feel utterly stupid.
It took me about forty minutes to access the internet, and i really don't know why this is happening. I wish i could have genetically inherited my dad's ability to use computers as naturally as we breathe, but no, i had to be the technologically challenged one in the family. Ok, ok, so i'm not too terrible, but i can't figure out why my internet wouldn't connect and it's driving me insane! I checked that the cable from the modem was plugged in and well connected, i turned it off and back on (that usually does the trick), i refreshed the internet page like a gazzilion times, then i went to the "tools" button on the internet window and tried to do something with the network or whatever it's supposed to be.
I think it's just plain sad that we can't use our computers freely, the way we are enslaved by technology and most likely will continue to be enslaved by it for the rest of our existence. Cell phones, flat screen TVs, i-pods, fly pens, videogames, they're all taking over! What happened to reading a good book, taking a nice healthy walk and admring nature? what happened to listening to the good ol' radio and using simple technology that we could understand?!
It's really frustrating that we need technicians to help us with our problems.. and then they come in and make it seem like a breeze.
How many things do we need to protect our computer anyway? I used to think we only needed an antivirus and i recently found out that we need that and a firewall and an adware remover and all kinds of other things i can't even remember. Are they all really necessary? What about my firewall, it says it has antivirus protection, and it has removed quite a couple of them (or prevented them from accessing my computer) but windows keeps telling me that i don't have an antivirus installed! I wish i could speak computer language so i could tell it that YES i DO HAVE AN ANTIVIRUS! and no, i don't want help finding one, but too bad, i don't so i can't.
I guess i'll have to keep restarting my computer and doing God-knows-what with the systems in my computer whenever i turn it off and try to access the internet until i can get the thing checked by my gifted father. I think maybe computers just don't like me, this is the fourth computer my father has fixed for me.. and it's only been a couple of moths since he fixed this one for me (said he had to delete everything from the computer and re-install it).
Pshh... i think i'll just go and read myself a good book to calm myself down, at least i know that it won't catch some sort of deadly virus and explode in my face.
