Infidel Girls
No one knows for sure when the first woman on earth stood up and said, “I’ve had enough with this sexist bull shit!” But at some point one did. Religion has been at the root of sexism. Feminism has been women’s fight back to equality. So who are these women who started such a fuss over religion and women’s right? Do you know? I’m willing to bet you only know part of the story and not the entire story.
Starting with women philosophers, these women went against the grain. Although most of them were not Atheist, they were very much freethinkers. Women like Aesara of Lucida (the least known of the bunch) who focused on science and human nature.
Many people have heard of woman like Susan B Anthony. And although she did good work there were many others before her. Starting with Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) who is believed to be the driving force behind the 1848 Convention, and for the next fifty years played a leadership role in the women's rights movement.
She grew up in a religious home. Went to college at a time when women were not allowed to think for themselves. She has countless quotes speaking of how the bible is the tool that keeps women property of men. A time that men were allowed to beat their wives without threat of going to jail. In fact they were expected to do such things. Here is one of her famous quotes, “The Bible and the Church have been the greatest stumbling blocks in the way of women's emancipation.” Despite how far we have come from this time this statement is still just as full of truth now as it was then.
In fact I’m willing to bet that it is because of how sexist religion is that there is such thing as an infidel girl. We are few, but we are without gods and masters.
From her one step many woman stood up for what they didn’t believe and what was right. Here are a few names:

Keep in mind, most of these women were/are feminists. I say this not to promote feminism but because religious persecution and feminism go hand and hand. It’s seemed to be swept away by so many misconceptions but it comes down to this, women were targets of religious hate and still are.
While we are on the subject, many freethinking men like Bertrand Russell supported these women. You see, the one fact about the world “feminist” that people seem to over look is that men can also be feminists. My husband is.
And of course I could go on writing about this subject. There are millions of Infidel girls with stories that need to be told if they have not already. Which is why Freethought Radio has opened up a wonderful forum and web ring just for them.
I’ve just recently become a member of the forum and the web ring. Many of you have already heard my story but like most of those in infidel girls in history, I too struggled with my freethinking. It’s hard being a woman; it’s even harder being a freethinking woman. I’m glad there are so many places like the Infidel girls forum and web ring that I can go to.
Even despite all that has happened as the result of having a religious asshole for a president, there are still those who stand for true freedom. There are still places to go and talk about things that happen in life. It gives hope to a better tomorrow.
