Oh, The Joys of Retail

I have a job working as a cashier in a retail store in a strip mall in a city near my house.  I don't particularly hate my job in any respect, there are just other things I would rather be doing.  All in all being a cashier isn't a bad job.  You get to talk to other people and see what kinds of things are being bought.  One of the tasks that we must perform is returns.  I, unlike most other cashiers, actually enjoy doing returns, except for one part.  The store where I work has a very strict return policy.  You have 30 days, with a recipt, all tags attached, showing no signs of wear.  I've had people try to return worn shoes before, and not understanding why we won't take them back.  My favorite customer so far is the woman who began ranting about how we were all idiots and how we should clearly be able to find her items on the recipt that she had.  The items in fact were not on the recipt and this was confirmed by many an employee of the store.  Finally, the manager decided to give a store credit for the merchandise becuase of the huge tantrum the woman was throwing.  I also had a customer that got so mad that she couldn't get her money back as she had returned after 30 days.  There is a clear date on the recipt with the description of the return policy directly below it.  The woman claimed she had not been able to make it to the store as it was to hot to leave her house and she had finally been able to convince her daughter to drive her.  She was 2 days past the 30 day date.  She was going to have to get a store credit, but not just any store credit, a store credit for the current selling price.  She was not happy about that.  She began yelling about how we were stealing from her and she would never come back to the store.  She decided she was going to take this to "high places" to make sure she got all her money back.  I can remember her yelling something about a lawyer as she waslked out the door.  I guess thats just one of the joys of retail.

I really hate people who thrown tantrums and creat scenes over something that was their own g-ddamn fault, well it's life and humans, what can you say, there are always the occasional drama divas

I worked at a sporting goods store and my department was right next to the service shop. There were some young adults that came into the store and told us that we needed to fix their bike for free and that we needed to pay their friends Dr. bills because their friend got into an accident with the bike and was in the hospital. Clearly, when you work in a store you know that there are certian things called liability forms and everytime a customer purchases an item they could possibly hold you reliable for you have them READ the form and sign it. These customers had signed a form stating that anyone that rode the bike would wear a helmet. When we asked if their friend was wearing one during the time of the accident they said "NO," so obviously it wasn't our fault that she got hurt. They said they were going to take the matter to the corporate level, started cussing and calling us all idiots, and yelled to other potential customers that they shouldn't purchase things from us. At that point, we had to call security to haul them out......yes...the joys of retail!

I worked in a banquet hall. But we also had people who yell at you for doing something, but rules are rules, and they need to accept that you are not going to break those rules. Sorry tantrum lady, but its the truth
