The Art Show

I went to an art show today. My ex-girlfriends teacher had some work on display, along with two other artists. I think all of them were art teachers. Her teachers were paintings of portraits, but abstracted in some way. One had red lines running through it, the other had chunks of the face missing. I didn't get it, until it was explained. Which sort of leaves the question, should art have to be explained?
More so, why does art seem to attract such lofty types. The music that was playing was some awful classical jazz guitar doodling. Not that I'm not a fan of doodling or doing it jazz style, but it was just so...ARTSY. It stank of art, and art folk. I guess my medium is writing, and music. Art doesn't make sense to me. It seems they have a way of making a statement through paintings, but often times. It seems the statement is made up after the painting is finished. I'm not sure I understand. Or just exactly, who is paying attentional to all of these statements? And how can they listen to a painting?

I have enjoyed some artwork. I say, "Oh, That was clever." I once when to see Dali's stuff in Philadelphia. I liked that. I'm not sure I got out of it what a scholar would get out of it, but it was interesting nonetheless. He has some interesting concepts. Some artists do. Maybe I am just stingy on what I like and do not. Then again, sometimes when things repel me at first, they also attract me. So I go about and try and understand why that person did what they did. Who knows.

It's Art anyway you look at it.

I'm going to MIAD for art next year.

I think there's something healing about art. It doesn't really have a sentance attached to it. A deffinite MESSAGE. I hate the "IM AN ARTIST OUT OF MY WAY" types. I went through a really bad stage in my life and I would paint. Just like you would probably do you'r writing or music. It's the same thing only in a different light.

It's very personal. For me art is all about feeling. And feelings don't always have a shape. Not all art is trying to point something in your face, A lot of it is rather introverted. something very vaulerable to the artist. It's not about who has the coolest message to get across. It's about the self and expressing something important. For the viewer it all depends on their point of view.

Sorry, it's hard to explan. :)
