Thoughts on The Great Depression

I wonder if someone in 1929, just hours before the stock market collapsed, was thinking “I just bought my first house, my wife and I are moving in tomorrow, we have a new born baby on the way, life is great”. Then again I wonder if someone died hours before the big crash. Some old fart with 100 Million dollars in stocks and bonds lying on his death bed puffing away at his last $100 cigar knowing that his family would have enough money for generations closes his eyes and sleeps in peace forever. Then shit hits the fan and his servants are stealing the pajamas from his fresh dead body. Better yet I wonder if someone had a really shitty day before the market crashed. Some upscale executive working on Wall Street finds out that his best friend just screwed him out of his job and is forced to take the stairs down 30 stories because the elevator is for employees only. Then by the time he reaches the bottom the market has crashed and he steps onto the sidewalk just in time to watch his boss plunge out of the his cozy office into a crowded street.

Its these thoughts that have limited my circle of friends.

I wonder how the banks could lend people money that belonged to other people. Did the people who trusted their money in banks allow the banks to lend their money away? This is why the older generation sometimes tended not trust the banks in this day in age.

This is what banks do. You put your money in a bank they use it loan it to people and in exchange they pay you interest on your money that they are using.
