On Hostility and Respect

I've only been a member of this site for going on three days.

I love being here because I am so impressed that people my age actually have something intellegent to say.  I love having respectful debates with my peers.

The only thing that I've been noticing that is really starting to get to me is the fact that people don't seem to understand that you can argue and still have respect.

If I disagree with someone, I have no problem saying it.  However, I feel like many people on this site are taking everything too far and personally attacking those who disagree with them.

The reason I can't get into the news or into debates with people my age is because of this fact: people take everything way too seriously.

What happened to respect?  What happened to open-mindedness and caring about what others have to say?

If you ask me, this website and the world would both be better places if we could learn to have a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Sing it.

I completely agree with you. That is something that should be emphasized more in our schools and our society in general. Even if you don't agree with a person's opinions, you should repect both their right to have that opinion and their courage to stand up for it.

i agree. Some people can be very impolite on this site because of opposive thoughts. Expressing different views is one thing, but expressing yourself in a harsh way, rude, almost yelling is inappropriate. When that happens to me in my blogs, i just don't reply to them.

People definitely go off the deep end when it comes to someone not agreeing with them. It's ridiculous.
