Confusion: Social Security.

I’m a bit confused.

My father recently passed away, we are receiving his social security money to help us out financially. My mother hasn’t worked in 2 months because she was taking care of him, under hospice care. (She’s looking for a job, by the way).

Anyways, according to the lady at the social security office, we’ll be receiving $200 for each person a month. Well until, I turn 18 which is in 9 months – so I guess it’ll help until then. BUT, our mortgage on our condo is $2100 a month; but the lady says my mom isn’t allowed to make more than $1500 a month, which is ridiculous. How are we suppose to pay our mortgage only? That’s not counting maintenance fees, electricity, phone bills, cable, food!

So I’m a bit confused. Is the government telling us we can't pay our mortgage, but giving us money that's not suffecient enough to pay our bills?

Hmmmmmmmmm.......................

...then cut costs. Everyone has bumps in life. Deal with it.

It's easier said than done, i can live without the land line & cable, but the mortgage is HUGE on us + the electricity.

Then get a smaller residence with less cost. I concur that it's harder in some areas of the country. It was quite easier here in Arizona, when this happened to me. An apartment can be found for about 500 a month. But I'm not sure how it is in your area. But I'm sure you could find something smaller, with less payment.

hehe how cute, in hawaii well on maui the lowest you can play is for $500 for a studio.

You guys schould check out getting Food Stamps, There are (In Some States) a program called HEAT that will help with the gas bill,
I know what you mean though. My wife (who was helping with the bills) had a hard time getting back to work after giving birth to my son. And things were tough. Sadly we had to make some big changes to make ends meet. We sold out house for the remainder of our loan, and went to an appartment with a low rate and some utilites.
Death is hard, and harder when it makes money issues. Hang in there Kiddo.
-If you want what you got, do what you have been doing.-

Thanks.
We used to have food stamps, back in the day. After my mom gave birth to my younger sister, but then they cut us off.
Yea we're gonna do some MAJOOOOOR changing in this household.
But i'm glad we're getting help in some sort.
Like social security money, and stuff. At least it's something.
