So I was watching the news this morning and something strange caught my attention, apparently GA Police Officers have had a problem with people not stoping when the police fire up their sirens. The reason they said was that the drivers were too distracted my their "iPods, Sirius, and CD players" and could not hear the sirens. Well, to solve this problem the GA Police have decided to add to their patrol cars an additional siren. This new siren will emit a frequency so low that it will shake the car to get the drivers attention.
However, this new siren gets everything within a 200 foot radius. So lets suppose you are driving in GA, just at the speed limit, and this car comes whizing past you and, luckily, a patrol car is right there and her fires up the siren to warn the speeding car, but he avades capture, so he fires up his second siren. Well the good thing is, is that the speeder stoped, bad news is is that because of the shaking he freaked out lost control, hit you and caused you to spin going straight through the median and into oncoming traffic.
Good move GA.

WOW, that would suck! I thought there are laws that say you cannot wear earphones while driving? Can't they just pass that law in GA and give out and EXTRA ticket for wearing the earphones...?
I think its more that they are playing them too loud in the cars, or they might just be that stupid, who knows.
The addition of a new siren doesn't have to mean police armegeddon, I'm sure they'll
be mistakes, like most new things. But a new horn in my opinion certainly isn't enough to assume people will be heading caravans at a time into the turnpike.

It's not that i think it will be Armageddon or anything i just thought that it was riddicoulus that they had to resort to those measures, or that they passed such a danger on to the streets.
With all of the distractions that are out there for drivers today, a mechanism like that, that can take one by total surprise definitely seems dangerous. But at the same time, I don't understand completely why it needs to be implemented:
Honestly, if people are not paying attention enough to see that they are BEING PURSUED BY A COP, I don't think they should be driving...
I don't mean to be harsh, but not paying attention to that extreme when you are driving is just as much as a safety hazard if not more as the new technology that you are speaking about.
This is random, but did you get that information from an article online. It is definitely something that I would like to pass on to my dad, if you had a link that you could comment back to me, that would be amazing!
Great blog! I like that it is original, different, and interesting!
Thank you for the complement. No i heard about that on a news story on CBS i think, it might have been ABC I'm not quite sure which network. they might have it on line or something. And i completely agree with what you were saying about they shouldn't be driving. People are just not that smart.
Thanks for the info. I will definitely be checking it out!
imagine if you lived on a highway! THAT my friends, would suck. my aunt lives by an airport, and the planes are LOUD! imagine that shaking your house!
I never even thought about that, that is such a good point. I actually live quite close to a highway... i am glad I don't live in GA!

It is good but only thing is that you have to take care of the sound pollution.
