Will the United States become a bilingual country? If it does will it be a good thing or a bad thing? These are a couple of questions we really need to ask ourselves today. As time change our country is becoming more and more diverse, with one launguage expecially sticking out; Spanish. It will not necessarily be a bad thing but there could still be reprecussions. The plus is that we may become a more integrated country, one that has an understanding of more than one culture and appreciation for language. America seems to be overly self involved to other countries, but what would they think if we became a bilingual country? It may advance our place in the international world throuh opening other cultures eyes to our advancement within ourselves. Now the down side will be the two languages may create conflict in the work place/economy. We need to realize that different languages could affect jobs and who has them, and what happens when the schools are split linguistically? It is a hard issue to understand, but it is something we seriously need to think about these days. Some day we may even become multi-lingual country but at this point it is really hard to tell because so much of it does rely on the outcome of Iraq and whether or not our economy will prevail or fail.

When I went to Egpyt every single kid knew at LEAST 2 or 3 differnent languages, and they were pretty fluent in them.
I think this is a great thing! It's unfourtunate that Americans aren't taught foreign languages at a young age.
I know. I wish language as taught in elementary school, then we would be so much more worldly. Such a shame! But that is pretty cool that you lived in Egypt.
