The Love Of My Life Isn't A Person?

Tagged:  •

I have a lot of emotions. And at times, I'm afraid to let them be known. I sometimes know what I want, but not all the time. And when that happens, I have a hard time finding out what it is I'm supposed to do. I rant and rave and vent to my friends all the time, but I don't think I've ever fully opened up to anyone. And when I feel this way, I grab my iPod, put it on shuffle, and let God decide what I should listen to. And (not that this is a recent discovery) I've found that music is the love of my life. The beat, the instruments, the harmonization, it all knows how to express any and every human emotion possible: hate, love, anger, pain, joy, sillyness, amusement, ecstasy, everything. I can usually find a song that fits what I'm trying to convey into words. It's amazing how it can all fit together. Pretty soon, I'm up, swyaing to the words, the sounds, the rhythym, and I am complete. This sounds corny, cheesy, and very very unrealistic, but once you find that one song, that one note, that one phrase of words that touches you, there is nothing like it in the world. Music runs my life. I move my feet to the beat of the song stuck in my head; and I dance to the ones that I feel can express fun, life, and emotion; and I sing along to the ones that I know I can relate to in anyway possible. I find it amazing. I'm going to be a linguistics major. Go figure =)...

I totally agree. Music is like nothing else. For me, it is both the largest and the smallest thing at once--it can take the WORLD, and all of human experience, and express it wholly in just a single tone. It amazes me. I've had a few rendesvous with my Nano as well.

If you love listening to music, you should try playing it as well, and maybe you do. Actually playing the music--especially with other people--takes the experience to a whole new level. I play piano. I love to open the top of the piano and just listen to the hammers hitting the strings, especially when my brother and a friend mandolinist is playing guitar along with me. But flying solo is just as good--especially with playing jazz piano. Miles Davis rocks my world.
