On March 29, 2008, join the global movement and turn off your lights at 8pm, no matter where you are in the world for one hour.

Isn't it funny how hard that is? Kids will probably be going wild on their sidekicks, plugging into their iPods, or whipping out their DS's or PSP's or whatever hand-held game console all kids under the age of 12 own.

People have more cars in their garages than bicycles, and you'd rather spend a day home surfing the net on your computer than walking to a friend's house a few blocks away. It's ridiculous. Too many people complain that one person can't make a difference and that there's always somebody else already doing it out there. Well, what's stopping you from being somebody else's somebody else? Believe it or not, the little things start adding up. It's like saving your change. No matter how small it is, after a while, it just starts to add up.

So I urge anyone and everyone to just reach out for just one day, for one hour, even if you don't do a lot of things for the environment. Unplug the appliances around the house, turn off the lights and take a walk around the neighborhood. Play charades by candlelight. Do a couple of card games with your family.

Hey, who knows? One hour unplugged might be the best thing that ever happened to you. And Mother Nature will thank you.

Now go tell all your friends. :)

This is one of the best ideas I have heard about in this site. I really appreciate it for you notifying us about this event. Thank you so much. I'll make sure to spread the word =D

I think I'll make sure my family does this. And I'll run outside and hog the hammock to watch the stars come out. XD

And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

When you mentiioned the playing by candle light event, memories came back to me. When ever there was a blackout in the Philippines, we would play hide and seek out side because it was so dark, or play a board game, or draw and color. I do think that doing things by the candle light has a different athmosphere by it. So YES, people who want to try spending time with your family turn off your lights for this hour. As for me, I'll try to persuade my family to atleast let go of the electrical appliances for as long as they can contain themselves.

We're having a dinner party tomorrow night! It'll be great to dine by complete candlelight! Everyone looks better in candlelight anyway.
