I find the groups she picked to use as examples of the "cliques" ironically hysterical since I am currently a high school senior, president of Christian club and VP of Robotics team (only two of us out of 12 have glasses actually, and our driver is one of those "populars" we all hate... but he's actually hysterical. I know why he IS popular and why he DOES get away with murder.), and I hang out with only 1 and 2 persons respectively from each of those mentioned in my "circle" of friends. Instead hang out with druggies, punks, and WOW addicts. I actually wrote this whole rant as a comment to her post http://www.progressiveu.org/blog/drea275 originally, so the "you" is drea275 :) *** I am walking proof that steriotypes are over-rated. I'm white as newly laid cement in the sunshine and prefer speaking in Spanish over English any day. I'm a preacher's kid, who prefers to announce her self as a "fundamentalist Bible believer" over "christian". (heck, if you're ganna put me in a box, let us make it as small as possible while we're at it. ) I have only a few "friends" in the Christian club on campus; I fit in better with the garageband music riff-raff. I hang out every lunch with a red-headed practicing jewish girl, (pause and re-read that last sentance.... now admit it; you just classified her by her race and religion!) I was freshmen class secretary and I'm dear friends with ASB soud commisioner, I play bass clarinet in football pit-band, I sing 2nd sop in advanced choir, and did I mention I find eyebrow an lip rings incredibly attractive? ... maybe that's why I hang out with the smoking, garageband, gpa 1.8's (though I am a 3.8)

I'm not saying cliques don't exist, they do and they are obnoxious, but I am saying that I think stereotyping is the bigger connected problem. But anyway, I honestly think the best point you made was in the end about letting people degrade other people. AND I strongly disagree with what queenmorganalefay said. High school is NOTHING like the real world. In high school we are stuck with people of our own age and grade in classes for 6- 8 hours a day and we can bs our hw and still pass. In the real world, if you give work half-best you get fired and normally the people you work with trasend generations. In my opinion the public school system in the US of A is anything but life-preperatory. But then, I WAS homeschooled my whole life until 9th grade and I wouldn't have had it any other way. So yeah, you know us home schooled types, so maybe you would like to discredit everything I just said...

oh, and I'm NOT republican; thank you very much.
