In order to stand your ground, like the mighty rock, you must understand that the strongest rock can be weakened, the sturdiest rock can be shaken, and even the mightiest rock can be diminished. It is important to understand that the water, ever changing, is more powerful than the stiff rock. The reason I typed those wonderful words of wisdom, paraphrased from Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, is because I find that in modern America, we can accept no way of thinking perpendicular to our own. We tend to see our way as the right way and that there can be no other way. How many of you can honestly say that you've taken time to consider the oppositions argument? I suspect that many people will say, "Why, I think about it while I'm attacking it!" or something that would make them seem a little less bigoted.Truth be told, not many people take the time to see the others logic. I am vehemently pro-guns/anti-gun control, but I can understand why some people are opposed to them. I mean, it's a tool designed for the explicit purpose of killing the opponent. But I like the protection that it instills in me. The fact that should something ever happen, I can make an example of the attacker. I don't like feeling unsafe, and let me tell you everyone, this is an unsafe world.
If we all opened our minds to the possibilities, would we be bickering about "Bio-ethics?" About whose invisible man is best? Would we attack others for their melanin? About which Giant Douche/Turd Sandwich is going to be president?

I would agree with you completely. Pro-gun for safety is a way to protect yourself and your family. I know my dad has a pellet gun that I always thought would protect me, but then he told me that while he was down in Tucson he had an actually loaded gun on him the whole time to protect him while he was living alone in his apartment. I am personally afraid of being attacked in my house by a burglar. My worst fear is being shot in my own home. I know that my family would not be to blame for that even though I still cannot be 100% sure. My mind usually gets the best of me whenever it comes to guns. Yes, I am afraid of the power that is packed into them but that power is what can keep me safe.
I agree. I used to be completely brainwashed by my religious upbringing and by conservative views. Once I came to terms with my homosexuality (at age 20, almost 21), instead of denying it to myself and others, I realized that I had to be more open and accepting of others also. I started looking at the world that I had though I lived in and realized that most of it was a lie. Everything is not black and white, and to think so without looking at the other side's argument is just plain ignorant.

""The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."
