Music is a powerful art form it can make you feel sad, happy, mad or even tired. I enjoy all music, everything from bluegrass (see username) to rock, rap, hip-hop, pop, country, classic country, sountracks, classical, punk, gospel and everthing in between. When you listen to music you can feel it, you can somehow know what the song is about even if doesn't have words, you can tell if it's angry, if it's happy, if it's sad. I think music is the ultimate art form because it has more depth than any other art form. You can hear, feel and sometimes (if you close your eyes) see music. Poems are almost like music, but their strenth, their power to overhelm is much less. If poems and music played MMOs, poems would always be at least 10 levels below music, they would play the same class, have the same powers, but music would simply be more powerful. A good song can make you cry, it can make you sob, it can sink into your emotions and make you feel the emotion in the song. That's the sign of a good song - one that you can feel, one that when you listen, I mean really listen, you can feel flow through your body like a river rushing down a hill.
My first entry... okay gimme a few posts to warm up - I'm still new to this

Hey, I definitely know what you mean. Welcome to ProgressiveU btw. I just did a lil "mini concert" today. When I got the music going, nothing else matters as long as I put forth my best effort, which I did. I remember one time, I was listening to Will Smith's song "Lost & Found" feat. Mary J. Blige (from his latest album); I was in the dark and really focusing on every sound that came thru my headphones. The song was so powerful, I got like a shivering chill in my body and really really feelin' the lyrics. Music is definitely the ultimate art. Poetry wise, a poet/artist whose pretty good I heard is Black Ice. I write poetry sometimes too, besides lyrics all the time. I don't think poetry is so low when it comes to music. A poem can be just as powerful, but yeah, music has the advantage of appealing. I remember something similar to the likes of what Tupac said when he was questioned about his music.
Are there any particular Hip Hop artists that you listen to?
Music is a FREAKING SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE!!!! Well most of it anyway.
Like yesterday while I was riding the bus home The Godfather theme performed by Guns and Roses (instrumental with insane electric guitar) popped up on my ipod and it was so intense I just wanted to get up and do some sort of "praise Jesus" sort of thing. Lyrics are just as important as the actual music, which is why I'm really into Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs (Phil's stuff makes me cry). What you said about liking all sorts of music reminded me of a Doctor's appointment I had a few months ago. My Doc tried to start up a conversation and asked me what kind of music I liked, if he had known any better he would have realized this was a stupid question but since he didnt I cut him some slack, I answered "pretty much everything". I guess my doctor hadnt expected this reply, he raised an eyebrow and said "everything?" and this part cracks me up he asked "even country?" (is it just me or does the majority of the planet seem to think there is something wrong with country?). Of course I like country but mostly the classic stuff like Johnny Cash (I'm proud to say I knew about him before Walk the Line) Marty Robbins, Jimmy Dean, and Johnny Horton. I am also like yourself a big bluegrass fan. Right now I am really into Rockabilly probably because it's like a fusion of bluegrass, country, and rock 'n' roll:) Ok I think I've written enough :) Toodles!
You guys are my kind of freakin people! Being a musician, it is so hard to find people who appreciate music, and making music as a freakin artform. Not to say my fellow musicians in my bands dont understand, they do. But other people that I can just chill with, when I am done with a show, I go out and talk with the people there, and mostly they are there to watch me shake my ass on stage, or see my guitar, bass player, drummer play. That part makes me really sad, cause what we are putting out for the masses isnt about sex, it is about music, and life, and having a good time without thinking about whatever problems may be in there lives. They just dont get it. Now granted sometimes the song is about sex... ():) but most of the time its not!
Its like these people dont get it, why we are there, and what we are doing. I love my friends who support me and my music, but it is extremly refreshing to hear a post about something that is so very close to my heart. So I thank you for that!

I'm a music fanatic myself and have studied alot of music. . .GOOD FIRST BLOG. . .I hope you continue to write on music sometimes!
Another of music's fantastic powers is the way hearing a piece of older music can spark your memory taking you back to the exact place you were when hearing it years earlier. You suddenly remember where you were, what you were doing, who you were with and even how you felt when that particular piece had an impact on you.
~And that's powerful stuff!
I always try to find a song that fits the emotions I am feeling. That way I can kind of elevate the emotion. This is true especially with angry music. If I'm pissed off, I find an angry song and scream the words at the top of my lungs. It always helps me to get the feelings out and in the end I feel a little better.
