The Worldwide Goodybag: Kosovo, Castro, and The Placebo.

This week was extrordinary. One nation has dropped an old republic and a new nation has created their first. These events happened almost halfway across the world from eachother, within two days of eachother; they are likely to effect the entire world and many more than just two days. Yes, bloogies, this week was extrordinary.

I want you to sit and realize what has happened in these past few days.

The great communist hold of Cuba, Fidel Castro, has let go! My goodness, people died waiting to see this day; people right now are celebrating, wondering, and fearing! All because on February 19th, today, one bad powerful man said no to a job position. Remember this date; February 19th. Say it, roll it on your tounge, because it is part of us; our history, we were there. Remember the date.

Two days ago, February  17th 2008, a nation appeared on the side of the world. Once it was the lands of Serbia, Once it was the lands of the Ottomans, of the Turks, of the Slavs. A land so fought over with war that, in it's brutal struggling history it recognized it's peoples identity. So much was their pride through ages of oppression that, finally, two days ago, February 17th, it declared Independence. Kosovo! Remember this date; February 17th. The day a people stood up and declared they deserved a homestead recognized by the world. Remember the date.

Although these two days are big upon their own measure, i would like to pose now maybe a larger question: Why?

Yes, yes, i know, it sounds like philisophical hullabaloo, right? Stick with me, my question is more complex in design then it appears.

So, what can you tell me about the history of nations from World War 1 up to this present? They have been multiplying; evolution one might say. We formed the UN, NATO, the Czek Republic, defeated the nazis, and defeated communism. Yes, bloogies, the world has been in the patterns of  deep evolution. An Example? Take Europe, once just a simple conglomeration of nations then becomes a supranational force, the EU. This EU of course is not as big as the UN a supraorginization spread worldwide. And whats bigger then a world orginization? A galaxy orginization? Anyway, you get my point.

So, in this week of great international activity can you see it's greater weight? Is this the churning of our world becoming larger? Of our world becoming more complex? While you sit there and wonder about, if this wonder week is a placebo or the real deal, also consider the alternative views.

Look at where these nations started, Cuba rose from Castro's oppresion, Kosovo from Serbia's, both of these nations rose from their  havoc; their devolution. Will they turn back to their old ways or will we all PROGRESS(wink wink) into something perhaps greater?

One way or another, this week is an important week in history. Remember this day. Remember what happened. And remember that you were there when it all happened.

With the strokes of an ink pen,

And the earnest of a man; Glen

great enthusiasm. what do you think the U.S. will require to end its trade embargo with Cuba?

Nothing less than a box of cigars and proof that Cuba is not a military threat.

I partially agree with him on the threat thing, but i honostley think it will take a back seat on our government to do list until we get some more major cases out of the way.

This week is definitely HUGE. These two events will be remembered as the start of something big but, what?

Kosovo's declaration has already had a very rocky start with several European nations refusing to acknowledge Kosovo as it's own nation. Already, two border posts have been burned by Serbs.

As far as Fidel goes, he was an "elected dictator" so all he did was decide not to "run" again. I am not sure we will see much change in Cuba for quite a while. The trade situation will not change until well into the next presidential term if at all.
