What is a non conformist? The obvious states that a nonconformist is one who does not accept or conform to the norms of society. So many people these days call themselves nonconformists, so why is it that these nonconformists all act the same if being a nonconformist means to act differently? Nonconformity doesn't mean getting a tattoo or listening to different music. Nonconformity means standing up and speaking for the masses, even if it meant serious consequences.
In todays society just because a person acts differently or pretends not to care, they automatically consider themselves a nonconformist. A nonconformist is not the one known as the rebel throughout high school, a nonconformist is the one who wears their glasses with pride, the one who pulls his/her pants above their waist, and studies in the library for hours on end whilst they are made fun of and ridiculed...because they are the ones who don't care what you think.
Good comment, I am tired of weeners standing up and saying "I support this! I am a rebel" to applause in a room full of people who cannot fall over each other fast enough to agree.
What you said about a noncomformist is exactly right. So many people try to be different, but by different they are acting the same in the end. People care too much what others think of them. Individuality is about being you and being only yourself. When someone tries to be different, they are trying to conform to another type of image that is not who that person. When a person do not care about his or her image or about being ridiculed, and tries only to be who that person is that to me is a noncomformist. But, too be honest, it is hard to be a noncomformist in high school because people want to impress other and they, in reality, have no clue who they are,yet.

Yeah, I know a kid just like that and he cares what everyone thinks. This site is supposed to be progressive, so please don't make wide generalizations because that makes you a conformist to this judgemental labeling society. K?

That's not what it means at all. If I refused to speak at all and wore a potato sack for clothing, that'd make me a non conformist to a degree and it'd have nothing to do with speaking for the masses.

Also not true. You can't pigeon hole a non-conformist and apply rules as to what they are, because if you are able to group them all together then they follow some sort of pattern and are thus conformists. You have "non-conformist" and "I don't give a shit what anyone thinks" confused.
At the root of it, it's nearly impossible to be a true non conformist and survive in modern society. Even the strangest of people follow required social norms in order to exist.
