Abortion a method of birth control?

Women who had repeat abortions tended to be over age 30 and to have more children, and most were using contraception at the time, the report from the nonprofit Alan Guttmacher Institute found.

The Institute used several different surveys by both the government and private groups to come up with its estimate. For instance, in one 2001-2002 government survey, 48 percent of women having abortions said they had undergone a previous abortion.

I am all about people having thier rights, and you know- I can't say that under a very strange and tragic event, I wouldn't think of ALL my options.  This just upsets me.  It is horrible to think that someone can think its okay to have multiple abortions.  It does say that most were using contraception at the time, how many were mearly using a condom and not using the pill or the shot?  Oh, some say they can't afford birth control. I am a first hand example of the wonderful public clinics that if you show interest in being on birth control they will provide it for you- for FREE!

Here's a little more that the article had to say:

Most of the women seeking abortions were poor or low-income, and 60 percent had at least one child already.

The study also found that one in three U.S. women have given birth to a baby they had not planned for, and one in 10 have had more than one unintended birth.

So, this just makes me think that the women who decided to have a second, third or maybe even a fourth abortion, it was another means of birth control.  The way I see it, these women were not 16 year old girls who made a mistake, or a woman who was raped.  These women have had a baby before, has had an abortion before and decided to think about themselves, rather than the baby inside of them and the many families that have been waiting on an adoption list for months.  These woman could afford to give birth to the babies because most of them were low-income and the state would have paid for the labor and also take care of the adoption.  This is just one way to look at it, and I'm sure not the only way.  I just thought I'd share this and see what your opinion is on this?

It is disheartening when one hears of the many women who use an abortion as a contraception. I do feel that abortion should not be something the government can legislate, due to the fact that washington is a bunch of men governing, if the congress was completely women and they wanted to regulate abortion I wouldn't have as much of a problem. Though thats not the point. I feel that there may needs to be some sort of restriction on the number of times a woman can claim it was an accident. Not to mention the morality of the situation, the emotional toll an abortion takes on a woman is horrible, and doing that to yourself multiple times just isn't right.

Birth control and conception control are two totally different things.

Birth control is when you do not allow the baby to be born (after fertilization has already taken place). This is where the morality factor comes in. Birth control includes abortion, some kinds of pills(not the pill), and I.U.D. I have actually read on an anti-abortion article that I.U.D is another method to use when not wanting to abort- but I.U.D is still killing!! It basically scrapes the fertilized egg off the lining. It is NOT an option if you are against abortion.

If you're against killing, conception control is your option. Conception control is when you don't allow the sperm and egg to unite: the pill (which is best), condoms, foams, douches (sp) etc. Of course, abstinence is best.. if you're not married!

Give it up. Abortion isn't going to be banned anytime soon. It will take way more than a completely anti-abortion president to get abortion completely banned.

And you're opinion isn't right. Neither is mine. They're opinions and abortion is a topic of opinion. Why debate when no one will properly listen to the other side? Why debate when people aren't going to change their minds?

Opinions are always right- it is the "facts" that can be wrong.

Thanks for all of your opinions. If you haven't noticed, I do use sarcasm in my blogs....my title is sarcasm. I totally agree that this is up for opinion and I am using my freedom to share this opinion. I think it is bull crap for a woman to have multiple abortions. Anyway, you all have very educated comments. I have not really followed abortion because it has never been a big deal to me, but I think after reading this article, I just might look in on the figures in better detail. Happy Blogging!

So in a way. If you use spermacide you are commiting a sin? You are killing the sperm which are part of the "baby". As is the egg, so if you had an abortion you would be killing a sperm and an egg... hmmm

I'm not saying all that, but do you know that some people really do feel that way. Lots of religions are against birth control. My whole arguement is that it sickens me that these women have had abortions BEFORE. I could see maybe making a mistake once, but to just let it happen again- give me a break!! I'm not even asking for a ban on abortion....I'm asking for people to use a little self-control and sense.

I suppose you could call it killing. But that's why we have condoms and the pill. Neither kill- only prevent fertilization from occurring.

Makes you wonder how they can justify continuing to keep abortion clinics separated from parenting clinics.

I read somewhere that abortion clinics cannot house any sort of educational facility (in regard to sex education, prevention, and the like) because they will lose their funding.

If people would stop shoving down the word "murder" into people's throats and start helping the people who need the help, the number of abortions would go down.

YOu make a great point! I am not against allowing abortion, I think that if people would try and educate and help these women, things would be different!!

I can't/won't speak for all women but I can give an example of how my sister got pregnant. My sister got pregnant the first time. Her boyfriend had her ask my parents for money for an abortion. My parents wouldn't give her money since her boyfriend refused to get a job and contribute to the procedures cost. She had Lexis. After this you'd think she'd be careful about birthcontrol, but she wasn't. She got pregnant the second time because she "forgot" to take her pills After that she just quit taking them and now has a set of twins. I wonder how many women aren't responsible enough to handle birth control?
