At Florda State, we seminoles have an amazing sense of community. The majority of students here engage in community service, or are involved in political social action.
I personally split my time between my civic duties at the state capitol in the senate office, and campaigning for Darfur health, hunger, and genocide awareness. Last semester I ran a program called Date for Darfur, where we auctioned students for a group date(yes it sounds odd, but it brings people out that otherwise wouldn't go out and do this sort of action). We spoke about issues throughout, and raised $3000.00.
I am wondering what other folks do to engage in their community. Where do you give time? Who do you help? Is your service performed globally locally, or both?
Also, this semester I will be running a program called the paper plate project. We will be writing letters to our local congressman to ask what they feel they can do about the situation, and demand action. The project is planned, however, I would like to hear if anyone else has ideas about what ELSE we can do!?
