Examples of ethical dilemmas in business situations.
Respond as though being consulted before the decision.
What do you think of it?

A- legality B- Moral viewpoint C- Long term solution strategy

You are the vice-president of a beer company in a state which sets the legal drinking age at twenty-one. Your boss asks you to organize a lobbying effort to have the drinking age reduced to eighteen.

a) Perfectly legal practice, to lobby effort reducing drinking age.

b) Completely depends on your moral views, and the confidence you have in the general public. How would you change the culture of the state and country if the legal drinking age was lowered? Would more sales be the result because of the legality, or would they actually lessen because eighteen to twenty year olds would lack the impetus of rebellion? Think on prohibition in the twenties, think on our culture as a whole and how sturdily intertwined beer is into it…the way the lobbying effort would be organized would have to be a) carefully planned, and b) socially conscious. Like drinking beer itself, awareness is needed. No overdoing it like a binge alcoholic. Lots of support and resistance expected from public.

c) In the long term, the way the lobby effort is organized is key. How society views the industry and the effort is key to long term success or suffering for the company. Is it worth it? Talk in depth with boss, with people outside the company for views on subject. Especially since the lobbying effort would need to include politics, and many other branches in the state and country besides just the company. This would not be a quiet effort.
