Being different than the norm makes one feel as if they live their life in a box. Whether it is because they are African-American, Hispanic, have a unique religion, or simply have a different sexual preference, those who are different get treated different. People naturally fear the things they do not understand, and some are taught to hate that which is unlike them. Working in an environment with such individuals makes it hard to come out of that box. One feels like they constantly have to hide their true self away as not to be persecuted or judged. For me this did not just involve keeping my sexual preference a secret, but also hiding my true personality and ablitities. At my previous job, I feared not only being myself, but standing out with of my talents and abilities. Every day my co-workers would constantly make lude jokes about every type of minority, especially gays. If others did not laugh or come up with their own jokes they would be considered out casts. I did not feel the same way they did about minorities, and did not think their jokes were funny. As a result, my ability to co-exist in this environment and be successful was not a likely hood. I was forced to quit that job for I would never be able to step out of that box and have the opportunity to have a better life for myself.

Boo hoo. Do you want a free handout? An easy life? Grow up. This is how it is. It happens in some form to everyone.
It doesn't happen to everyone. You have the lack of empathy that usually accompanies privilege.
You didn't have to be so harsh.
