Although doing a 180° flip purely to gain more voters is, simply put, ridiculous, flipping on an issue over time demonstrates maturity and political sophistication. At least in my eyes.
To be so narrow-minded and stubborn on an issue slows progress. So what if a person no longer supports the initial missions of the Iraq War? Things have changed since we waged war five years ago, and to have absolutely no change in opinion is not beneficial to his or her’s camp, people, and reputation.
Staying consistent and loyal to an opinion is fine, but if circumstances change, then hopefully the opinion will as well.
I guess that I’ll take some time to demonstrate my own flip-flopping, occurring over the past two years. I took AP Government and Politics, and through political sophistication and preparing to vote in my first election this November, ideas have naturally changed.
