The topic of nurture verses nature is an ongoing debate. Nurture is the way you are raised. While Nature is the way you are born. Some people think that nature is a more important part of the way you develop, and no matter where you are raised, and what you see…you will be a particular way. Other people believe it is all in the way you are raised, or nurture. Nurture is how you were brought up, what you were raised with, and what you have seen in your life. I think that Nurture plays more of the role. Otherwise you would think that more people would deviate from society. Usually children with a good up bringing and are taught to do the right thing, will follow that lifestyle pass it on to their children. That would show nurture was more dominant over nature. Also in contrast to that, those who are brought up in a bad area, with lots of shooting, and their parents are on the street, dealing drugs to put food on the table, lean toward the same lifestyle of crime, which again would be nurture. The famous saying is very much showing nurtures dominance over nature, “monkey see, monkey do” This is comes from people saying, what a young monkey sees, a young monkey will do. This law can also be applied to humans, and children. Again, people can contradict this theory with other ideas. One example we have reviewed in class would be about two young twins. A summary of the story would be as follows; A mother had two twin boys, the children had problems urinating so she had them circumcised, when the doctor did this he accidentally practically burnt the whole penis off. The mother had two descions, one was to turn the boy into a girl, the other was to have the boy feel, “small” for the rest of his life. The mother was told if she treated the boy as a girl, and gave him, or her, hormone pills when turning into a teen, she would just become a girl. The felt this would be the best option, but her twin did not take to this idea, and in the end, found out the truth, and was happy to know, that was why he felt awkward his whole life. This shows the domination of nature. The boy, wanted to live his life as a boy, even though he was told that he was a girl. These are both questions on which is in fact the most effective part of ones life. I personally believe in nature. I think that way because when I was younger my parents always let me accept homosexuality, and I still never fell into that category. Also, I always wanted to dress as a girly girl, but my parents didn’t buy me those kinds of clothes, or treat me with that type of personality, although that is still the way I am. When I was younger I also wanted to play with Barbie’s not action figures, and my parents never told me there was anything wrong with that, it just wasn’t what I wanted to do. I think what you are born with is what you have, and minor adjustments can be made, but people have a general “fate”.
