Integration of schools

Racism is a state of mind.

I don't believe that bussing african american students to a predominantly white school is right. I mean, if the issue was really about racism, then yes, I believe they should, but other than that, no it is not right. Sure one school has more white people in it than the other, and sure the other school has more money because parents are wealthier, but taking a bunch of poor students, and swapping them with a bunch of "better-ff" students isnt going to work. First of all, it is not the students, so they shouldnt be punished by going to a bad school, and second, when this happens, better-off parents will start withdrawing thier kids from the public school system, so what will that leave us with? Besides its like showing preference to another group, just because their a minority, that, I think, is racist.

It's just like being zoned for a certain school. I wouldnt want to be forced to go to a school a bad school, so affirmative action can be appeased. if something is to be done about this, it should be the way money is given to the school. I am not opposed to giving more funds to a school that really needed it. Some schools are just better off compared to other schools because parent give more money.

Were you referring to a specific article when you wrote this?

Assuming the African-Americans are poor and the white people are not, then students of a particular race are going to be disadvantaged either way... but I'm not sure if this is about race-mixing or about our terrible education system. It is my opinion that more funds is not quite the issue. If only half of the public school teachers were decently qualified to be teachers, students would be a lot better off...

its the funds for the schools that's the real problem, but it seems like the issues is race

Well I personally think that this idea is okay... TOday many people aren't racist but some are; But thats beside the point. Integrating schools is good because in the real world you will encounter/ work with all types of ppl. Yes some parents will change their students school but eventually they will have to adjust unless they are gonna live in a bubble!

You're right, we will encounter places that with all kinds of people, and its hard being discriminated on, but I just dont think its okay, in this case, for integration in theses schools because race is clearly not the issues, but minority parents and affirmative action is making it seem like it is. integration in theses schools will only promote racial stereotypes. If its equal, its equal.
