Recently, a friend alerted me to the fact that there is a series being made off of the Geico commercials that run around the concept of "so easy, a caveman can do it". Also, there is a movie being made starring the Burger King from the Burger King commercials. You know, the monarch with the big head.
While I appreciate a great deal of creative thought and energy went into making the commercials, I cannot for the life of me understand what has happened to the movie and TV industry. Maybe it's just going back to what I've heard all of my life. Maybe there are no original thoughts. I've been noticing, however, that lately a lot of the movies that are being made are either remakes of movies from back in the 50s, 60s, or 70s, or the movies are based off of a movie that was not that popular or just not that good. There is also the old concept of making a movie based off of a book (though I argue better books can be chosen). Or, there's just the chick flicks that seem to run along the same lines every time.
I'm wondering what happened to the days of creative cinema. Making movies off of books is great, and necessary, but there have been plenty of directors in the past that have written their own material. Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, ect. Tim Burton, though he may have directed some o f his movies off of comic books, came up with some extremely original stuff in the past. I'm afraid we've fallen into a creative rut.
And speaking of comic books, that seems to be a growing trend to. Not that I'm complaining, as I happen to be a proud nerd and collect comics as it is. I'm just afraid it's going to become old after a while. Every other movie premeire I see in theaters now has to do with some comic or other. It's like they're going through the lineup one by one.
I call upon the collective imagination of the world Is there not one creative mind among you? Pull yourself out of the gutter, please.

Yes, creativity has gone down the drain. But its worse than just creativity. Hard work has gone down the drain. People no longer want to spend the time creating an all new movie. Why write a symphony when there are already hundreds out there. Why write a new script when there are billions of books to choose from. Our society is loosing the ethics we once possessed along with the creativity.
In movies, yeah, I noticed that two years ago when the trend of superhero movies and animated animal movies were coming out. I got so sick and tired of it!
Creativity has been lost in movie and TV.
But not from music, though. You just need to know where to look.
