Pathologist suffocates autistic daughter

This story has been all over the news in my city, and has shocked everyone!

The Saturday before Mother's Day, Karen's autistic daughter, 3-year-old Katherine, had retreated into her autistic world and refused to take a nap.  So Karen decided to take Katherine on a car ride to help calm her down.  During the trip, Karen drove to her mother's house (who was not home) and placed a garbage bag over Katherine's head, suffocating her.  When she returned home, she took her dead daughter into her bedroom and laid her down on the bed.  Karen then called police when she tried to "wake" Katherine from her nap, but found her unresponsive.  Karen even tried to perform CPR on her daughter before the paramedics arrived.  Karen was not believed to be a suspect and was allowed to go home.

Then, on Sunday morning, emergency crews were called to the house again, this time because Karen had overdosed on some kind of medication.  When police arrived, Karen and her husband were found embracing in their bedroom.  The husband was crying, but Karen was showing no emotion at all.  When police questioned Karen about what happened, she responded that she had simply wanted to end her own pain, along with the pain of her daughter, and she willingly admitted to killing her daughter.

Karen is a certified pathologist with no criminal record.  Everyone who knew Karen said that she was very dedicated to trying to get treatment for her daughter, and was a very loving mother.  She was perceived to be a fantastic mother who would do anything for her child.  This story shows me that even when things seem perfect, a wonderful job, great husband, two beautiful children, and an amazing home, appearances aren't everything.  There was obviously something serious going on with this mother.  I'm very saddened by this story, and I was completely shocked at what this doctor did to her own child.

Who knows what goes on through people's mind. I am very sorry for the family and friends that had to be a part of this.

You really can't tell what's going on with someone until something like this happens. It's sad, but it does show you that no one has a perfect life or family.

You can't say that Karen didn't love her child, cause that would be a lie. What is sure is that the women really had psycological problems. But it is really frightening that these things are imposible to prevent.

She should go to a crazy house

This woman needs serious help! If she was unable to realize that murdering her child, regardless of who she thought was helping, was wrong, she should be receiving intensive professional help.

I'm so sorry that something like that happened... I'm most sorry for the little girl who didn't get a chance to grow up. Autism is difficult to deal with, but people who are autistic usually don't mean any harm.

awful.
