I Hate Bush, but....

I am not a Bush supporter. I never will be and that is final. But I am not going to deny that he has done some good things. I mean, the guy has had to handle a lot throughout his two terms as President. And being president, ladies and gentleman, is no easy task. I hear people say that they want "anybody but Bush" for President. That makes me laugh. So, a terrorist would be better than Bush? Or, a person who thought Hitler did the right thing?

But, all kidding aside, I am guilty of that philosophy. I come from a very political family. My parents, like many Americans nowadays, were republican at one point. Then, George W. Bush was elected as President. At the time, I was only in middle school. I did not follow politics that much then. But I had a very liberal friend who was quite fiesty. She was VERY anti-Bush. Mention his name in front of her, and you were in for a heated debate.

I am anti-Bush. But, after seeing his daughter speak on TV, I feel bad for thinking some things. I mean, who am I to say he doesn't feel anything when he hears about the soldiers dying? Of course, I have only been listening to some anti-Bush propaganda lately. It's hard to find anything else around here lately. Also, who am I to say that he wants war? He's only human. I am not trying to defend his choice, and I would never vote for him. But I also would not disrespect him. He's faced some pretty hard decisions.

Thought I do not think that the war in Iraq was necessary, I support the troops. I support the troops, not the war. If I did not support the troops, I feel like I would just be plain evil. For someone I know will soon be deployed there. And the son of the Dean of Student Activites at my school is currently there. I pray for him. I hope that the Lord keeps him safe.

I don't really like Bush, but then again, I've never met him. So I don't know what he's really like.

with a soldier who had lost his legs, after he recovered Bush took a jog with him, not for media but a picture got taken...Bush is human and cares. Does he make mistakes? YES...we all do.

I doubt that anyone doesn't support the soldeirs.

As for Bush, I do disrespect him. I think he has made a lot of bad choices and I think he has done a lot of really Unconstitutional and just plain wrong things. i.e. the wiretapping and sercret prisions. The man has not earned my respect, so I don't respect him.

Don't lay all the blame on him...Shit, the CIA gave LSD to American citizens without consent (or knowledge) in the 70's in an effort to create a mind control device.

Right on, Nick. Congress supported the war twice, so they are to blame as well. And since when was a president, or a human being for that matter, perfect? He'll make mistakes. We all do.

I still hate Bush though...and he's an easy scapegoat.

Of course, I don't put all the blame on Bush, but he's gotta take responsibility for his actions, which include getting us into Iraq, authorizing wiretapping and the like.

Have you heard of anarchy?

Yes. It worked for Somalia better than their government did.

Oh yeah. One of the world's great nations and favorite vacation spots.

I guess perhaps anarchy might be better than certain governments, but not better than most, including ours.

I didn't say good. And I was joking, a little. I'm not an anarchist. I just said that it was better off before the UN forced a national government on them. Which then started a Civil War.

Yeah. I try not to get too caught up in the media. That way, I won't get the wrong picture. He cares. I just wouldn't vote for him. But that doesn't mean he's not a good person.

I also don't like No Child Left Behind. It had good intentions. But it really doesn't do much for kids with Special needs, like my sister. I want my sister to get the education she deserves.

I'll stop hating him when my husband comes home...

Amy Rice's picture

Thank him for me...but that has nothing to do with Bush...stop blaming other people for your husband's decision. It was a noble one.

I agree with Amy Rice.

If you join the military, for whatever reason, you know the possibility of going to war and are (hopefully) prepared to face it. Yes, Bush pushed for Iraq. But it's not like he just randomly woke up one day and said, "Hey, I want to be a violent dictator." We all were upset over 9/11, and he did what he thought was right. Whether you agree or not, part of being in the military is knowing that the President of the United States is the Commander in Chief, and if he decides we need to go outside our borders to defend our country and go to war, guess what? A long trip may be in order.

People need to come to grips with that and stop blaming the war for all of this country's problems. Putting down what the soldiers are working hard to accomplish, in the name of our country, doesn't really solve anything. Find something more productive to do.

I can understand that. I want the troops home, too. I cannot even begin to fathom how you are feeling right now. I don't have a loved one in Iraq right now. One of my close friends will be deployed soon. He feels he needs to serve his country. He's got an indomitable spirit, my friend does. He's truly amazing.

Dude, reply button. It helps the flow of the debate.

Openminded are we? Can't we all just get along? Nope...I don't agree with that either. I like a little conflict. I'm the asshole that says something to get ya ignited. I am against this blog though...I feel VERY strongly about this. A woman screenwriter in NYC, that was close to my friend Bob- a casting director, was killed by an illegal immigrant who she reported for being too loud in their building. He strangled her and hung her pregnant body. Fuck that. An American has a number SSN, that we pay taxes for and are tracked and known by, these people are non-existent to the government and are a threat to our safety and they do not at all advance our economy, They are detrimental. Have your babies there in Mexico...Nobody cares...They cry louder than our poor...WAHHHHHH...The people not babies...Get the hell out. Come back when you respect the law of the land.

I was being sarcastic...I really hate the internet somedays. You can't be as sarcastic here as you can in regular conversation.

It would have worked out like this:

I'd have started talking "We never disagree..." and at that point, I'd raise my hands (palms facing behind me) just above my shoulders and tilt my head back about 15 degrees, and close my eyes and say, "You just have opinions..." while shifting my head forward from its reclined state and lowering my hands and rolling my eyes, "That are wrong." It works out so much better that way.

I didn't know we were talking about illegals in this one, though. I thought we were Bush hating. :-)

I hate illegals though. The sheer fact that they can get away with murder astounds me...They should just be arrested and shot...Non-citizens do not deserve the rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights (i.e. the right to a trial, the right to not be subject to cruel and unusal punishment, etc.)

You make me laugh, too. I like sarcasm, for the most part.

In my expirence, the only way to make someone think the same way as you is to:
A) Insult them until they're dead inside
B) Kill them
or C) Make them Laugh.

C tends to work the best, but B is a good back up.

I agree. President Bush is doing his job as he sees fit, it's not like his goal is to ruin America. And you have to remember that it is a job, when it's the end of the day he goes home to his family. It just happens that it's a very important job, haha. And he handled 9/11 well seeing how we have never had that kind of attack before on a citizen building. Pearl Harbor was on a naval base and it was pretty obvious who attacked. With 9/11, not so much.

True. 9/11 would've been difficult for anyone to handle. He did a good job. No one could have been prepared for an act of such hatred. Most of the people who died in those attacks were innocent. I was in the sixth grade then, and I admired him for how well he handled it.

Jsaj's picture

As a New Yorker I can say 9/11 was NOT handled well. Gasp, big shock. They're still finding bones in the sewers and recently one of the smaller buildings that was damaged in the incident and not imediately taken down caught on fire and burnt to the ground. Two firefighters died. It should have been demolished immediately.
And, passing the patriot act is not handling things well, it is panicking and passing unconstitutional bull.

I respect Bush very much, I hate the fact that war is a part of life and people have to fight for what they believe in too, but it's a fact of life.
He's the President, he has just a tad more information than us for reasons such as, if we have the information the terrorists have it.

I wonder how all the wives of wars before felt?
I doubt they wanted their husbands to go and fight in wars that much more men died in than this war, but those men and women are much better people than us in my opinion, they chose to go and defend our freedoms, what they believe is right.

Can I ask you what it is that you think President Bush is doing so wrong?
And how would you handle the pressure of the most powerful country in the world?

Jsaj's picture

"I respect Bush very much, I hate the fact that war is a part of life and people have to fight for what they believe in too, but it's a fact of life." Ah, but what war is neccesary? The war in Afghanastan against the Taliban, who did attack us, or against a dictator in Iraq who didn't.

"He's the President, he has just a tad more information than us for reasons such as, if we have the information the terrorists have it." Oh, and what information that could show the validity of the war in Iraq would cause the terrorists (which ones?) to jump up and down in joy? I think that they're pretty happy that we've made a breeding ground for anti-American sentiment.

"I wonder how all the wives of wars before felt?" Pretty shitty probably.

"I doubt they wanted their husbands to go and fight in wars that much more men died in than this war, but those men and women are much better people than us in my opinion, they chose to go and defend our freedoms, what they believe is right." I think that there have been almost no justified wars that we have fought. The end result may have been good, but the justification of the wars have tended not to be. And I don't think that the ends justify the means.

"Can I ask you what it is that you think President Bush is doing so wrong?"
What's he doing wrong? He is keeping us in a horrible war in Iraq. He's violating the Constitution. He's attempting to impose his moral views on the country in regards to stem cells, homosexuality and abortion and who knows what else. (Someone, I'm sure, but I can't think of any.) He passed and supports legeslation that doesn't make sense regarding the schools. He cuts taxes, but not spending and constantly prints money. (The US mints don't have to tell us what they print anymore, I'm pretty sure.) He botched Hurricane Katrina. He refuses to even talk with most of our enemies, even the ones who will talk us. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

"And how would you handle the pressure of the most powerful country in the world?" Poorly.

"Every man makes a god of his own desire."

Thanks for the reply, even though I didn't ask you.
Whether or not "you" may think any war is necessary, many do, because not every body agrees and that's why we have votes, the majority voted Bush into office, and back in, again.
He already told us his reasons for the war, yet some don't agree on the reasons and some don't believe them.

"I wonder how all the wives of wars before felt?" Pretty shitty probably.< Thank you for proving my point.

Your opinion is not the opinion of many others and that's what matters.

You, my friend, are on your way to TRUE toleration...

And Amy Rice, I respect you... a lot... well done...

I wonder why, but I appreciate that, more than you know.

Point taken. I agree that Bush has made some mistakes during his presidency, however: What would you do in the situation of 9/11? Would you really just sit back and hope that something didn't happen again? I think that Bush is human and has made some mistakes. I also think that he's gotten a bad rap since he's the president during a war. People generally react bad to presidents who are in office during a war. If he didn't have the war as a mark on his "record", would you still be anti-Bush?
