The other day I was walking through through the mall and I accidentally ended up in a "Plus Size Store." Now I know what you're thinking, big whoop, it's a plus size store. But here's the thing when i left, I left jeleous. I left wishing that I was bigger and could fit into those sizes not becasue I'm so anorexically skinny that I need to pack on a few pounds, but becasue all of the clothes in that store were cute. Now you're also probably thinking, "What you didn't think the bigger boned of us could have fashion too." (Now please don't take offense when I make random comments like this because I used to be big enough that I did fit into the upper ends of the plus sizes until I lost some weight, and that's why I think I have a right to talk about this subject.) I found it kind of odd to be feeling this way after walking out of a store like this, but after a while I realized that no, it wasn't just in this store that the plus sizes were cuter, but in all the stores I went in. In fact the plus sizes wer way more flattering and attractive then the regular and pettite sizes. Then it all began to come together as I read an article in a fashion magazine where designers were revealing their new found secret, "Bigger is Better." With the rising rate of obesity in America designers are actually beginning to design towards the heftier and bigger boned of us. Now some of you are also probably thinking, well it's about time, but all I feel is a sense of Irony and almost disgust. Not because I feel that bigger girls shouldn'thave better fashion options, because remember I used to be there and one of the major reasons I lost weight is so that I could wear all of the cute clothes that they make exclusively for the "skinny" people. I merely feel disgust because It's almost as though these fashion designers are encouraging America's weight problem. They're encouraging us (to put it bluntly) to be obese meanwhile the scientist, health experts, and other people are trying to encourage Americans to lose weight and become a healthier nation. Why else do you think they created the reality TV show "Biggest Loser." It was to inspire and motivate. Now these designers are coming in and telling us the exact opposite, and in return are enabling us to live a guilt free life where we just sit on our butts, in designer clothes, sipping milkshakes, downing french fries, and watching Biggest Loser. Am I wrong? Please if I am confused in this please tell me and I'll shust up, but I feel a little... actually, I don't really know how I feel. How does everyone else feel? Maybe your comments will give me a little insight on how I should feel. Right now I'm just really confused.

I agree with you, it is almost like they are... encouraging it. I'm not saying those people don't have the right to look fashionable, becasue honestly some of them can't help it. But the ones who can are just too damn lazy to do anything about it. That's what annoys me. But that's ok, they are the ones who will die of cardiac arrest at 30, not me.

i totally agree with you on the disgust factor. Designers should not be catering to our ever growing obesity problem. They are just trying to make a buck but they should be trying to convince Americans to attempt to loose weight. I do know that it is difficult for some people to loose weight but for a good portion of them it is possible it just takes a change in life style. I personally am not one of the obese so I do feel bad telling them how o live their lives but I do think that they should attempt to live healthier and to make a larger attempt. That also applies to designers who need to not encourage the growing obesity rate.
