I don't understand all those people say that global warming doesn't exist. IT'S REAL, AND WE NEED TO START ACTING UPON IT!!!
If you don't want to live in Siberia or Tierra del Fuego (although Tierra del Fuego may be covered by water), act now!
We need to find alternative energy sources for electricity in buildings (the big one), cars, manufacturing, etc...before it's too late.
Here's an article I found on global warming. It depicts how serious the problem is.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/16/60minutes/main1323169.shtml
The government needs to give incentives for private companies to research alternative energy sources (tax breaks and such), or maybe it could even fund such research with better appropriating its money (could I say, cut defense spending?) This will be defense, defense of the whole world!!!
Look what happened when we cut back on CFCs. The ozone layer as of now is quickly regenerating. The same could happen to the Earth's temperature if we act now.
Time is ticking.

Any action we take is just going to slow the affects of global warming. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. I mean, if there was a way to prevent it, I would be all about that. But I feel like there is no way to stop it if it is going to happen.
True, but holding it off is still good. Eventually the Earth will heat and cool cyclically, but the warming usually happens nearly as fast as it is happening now.
A natural warming cycle might occur and we couldn't do anything to stop that. However, if human activity is playing a role (and I do not for a second doubt that is it) we can do something about that. It might be unpleasant, it might take time... but I've never noticed that anything worth doing was easy or even all that convienent. We simply have to work on finding answers and then putting those answers to use. And for the large part, we aren't looking for answers, we're too caught up in the "it isn't happening" or "it isn't going to affect me" or "there is nothing we can do about it" mentalities.
Imagine if we said that about AIDS or cancer or an oncoming hurricane and did nothing... I don't see much difference.
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss
"May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the warm rays of the sun fall upon your home."
SERIOUSLY! I just don't understand why people think it's a hoax or there is no hope in preventing it from becoming worse....There really is, it's all in a manner whether people decide to take action or not....of course nothing is happening right now, PEOPLE AREN'T DOING ANYTHING! THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT HELPING EITHER! Like some mayors and governors are helping, but we need the president! We need, as individuals, to help out too! I'm all for doing something about Global Warming, i know that something can be done. Maybe little by little it will slowly reduce...but hey, it's reducing and not increasing...that's what we want right? I dunno, people have their opinion on things...but i just don't understand...we are living in this and some don't believe anything is even happening! IT's crazyness!
Look... people know its not a hoax. Even those Republicans, who seem like mental retards, know its not a hoax. No one wants to admit it for a variety of reasons and until it comes up and slaps them in the face it will continue that way. If anyone out there seriously believes that Global Warming is a hoax, they are delusional to life or ignoring the scientific evidence and history that is laid out as facts. But, it remains that major corporations, who's interests are held in the palms of those who refuse to acknowledge global warming, will do anything they can to refute global warming claims. Its a carbon, no pun intended, copy of the way the effects of cigarettes were debated so heatedly back in the 70s and 80s. Its all about money.
I hate to break it to you, but "alternative energy sources" are not the answer. The amount of energy consumed is the problem. People are unaware of the serious role of dependence that we all have on oil and fossil fuels. Almost all forms of energy are detrimental to the environment, no matter how you slice it.
Anyways, I agree with you wholeheartedly but there is no room for whining. Read some books, learn the facts, and take action on a personal level! One very easy way to cut back on Carbon emissions is to become a vegetarian, or 10 times better a vegan. The amount of waste and methane produced by cows is signifigantly more detrimental to global warming than anything else today, including cars.

Anyways, alternative energy sources are not the answer but global warming is real!

Actually I've talked to people that wholeheartedly believed that global warming is a thing made up by us liberals, when what is happening now is completely caused by nature.
I think there are other ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by animals...mainly feeding them grass and not cow parts. Grass doesn't need much fertilizer and grows pretty easily. It doesn't take much to sustain it. Processing of cow parts for feed, however, does take more energy to make (I would think they aren't feeding them raw cow intestines). Sure, there will still be greenhouse gases and our cows will be smaller, but the greenhouse gases will be reduced.
Think about it...if everyone became vegan, the greenhouse emissions by transportations of cows would become greenhouse emissions caused by transportation of vegetables.
Not if you had your own garden.
Even if cows ate grass they still have to shit and shitting causes methane. Its not what the cows eat (although cows eating other cows is exactly what causes mad cow disease), its how many cows eat.
For every one vegan there is thats less demand for meat and less demand for the commercial enterprise of raising cows. The beef industry is an industry like anything else. If consumers stop consuming it, it will become unprofitable and go away.
as for those who whole heartedly believe that global warming isnt real, they are being ignorant by choice or by lack of information. its really quite amazing.
Republicans are the devil. If we 'liberals' try to point out some horrible thing that is destroying us but not causing profits, they paint themselves as victims and us as demonizing assholes hell bent on lieing to get what we want. But when republicans point something out that is stopping profits, they get a free pass. its rediculous.

It was snowing out here a couple of days ago - snowing in April! I find it difficult to believe that we are experiencing global warming when it has been colder than ever in my neighborhood......
