Why Starbucks Should Just Pump it into my Veins

I am one of the many teens that has gotten caught up in the coffee wave.  Since the founding of Starbucks in 1987, it has caused many Americans to rekindle their age old love of coffee.  I spend roughly $30 a month at Starbucks, between beans and drinks.  I don't own any Starbucks paraphernalia, but I do enjoy the Sumatra Blend (EXTRA BOLD!).  When I visit my local Starbucks (or any of the 20 within walking distance from my house) I tend to order the White Chocolate Mocha, but there are occasionally random other "seasonal" drinks that I will catch.

Basically, I am addicted.  Chemically, I am addicted.  Emotionally, I am addicted.  According to my neurologist, I drink enough caffeine to kill a baby elephant.  However, it's been keeping the migraines to a minimum.  I can't complain.  If I don't smell coffee, I won't wake up (thank you, God, for inventing the alarm-clock/coffee maker).  My life revolves around the next cup of coffee.

So, with all this considered, I think Starbucks should just pump that shit right into my veins.  It honestly would be a more cost effective method of delivering me my 5 (I know, you're only supposed to get 4, but I know the barista) shots of espresso.  If we say that I get a litre IV bag (of strait coffee) per day for $1, I still maintain the $30/month habit, but we all walk away happier.  I don't think I'm spending $370/year, and they actually make a tiny bit more money per year.  Instead of making $360 ($30/month * 12 months), they make $365.25 ($1/day * 365.25 days).  It's a win/win.

Maybe, we should just find a way to lower the cost of coffee (right now, coffee prices are on the rise due to drought in coffee producing countries), milk (milk costs more as gasoline costs more), and anything else that goes into my cup.

Eh, I don't know.  Let's just start the Nation Coffee IV Drip (NCIVD)...which looks like an abbr. of some new version of the bible.

but you take the crown... I guess I should say that I am against the Starbucks phenomenon, In about three months, I will buy one drink for them because I think it's preposterous-their prices-. But I LOVE coffee and for that I blame my addiction to tea or what we like to call CHAI--

Tea--- the low (compared to coffee) caffeine brother or sister of coffee. It's what the British drink that I love BLACK TEA!!! the green and herbal teas that are so infamous in asian nations, are well, for those who like very very little caffeine.
I'm a child to the tea leaves and all that.......
Give me Lipton, PG. and Tetley any day...any second and I can down a cup in a few minutes- totally unaffected by it because of the fact that it isn't exaclty high in caffeine but it makes me all warm and fuzzy.
ON to Coffee-- ah, the coffee dream, well I say Nescafe and Folgers and the current one in my cabinet is Maxwell but I really prefer Nescafe. Furthermore, I have searched for recipes...How to make a mocha frap, a latte and how to get those raspberry or other flavored coffee/chai drinks...Yah, that's my addiction or well i experiment. Mix some french vanilla ice cream (breyers or haagen daz, if one has the extra cash) to really good cup of coffee that has been chilled and WAHLAH- it's some nice ice coffee.

made my day. I can't imagine what would happen though if we actually allowed coffee IVs. The FDA would have a field day with that idea.

I'm not addicted to coffee, but I do enjoy a Mocha Frappachino from Starbucks or another coffee shop at least once a month.

I try and maintain a non sequitur approach to my ProU blog. I think my next topic will be about how Chinua Achebe (the man who wrote Things Fall Apart) hates Europeans...

Off the beaten path...i kind of like your blogs. Mine happens to be a mixture of research, opinions, and eventually I'll get to useless ramblings. There's only 4 posts, so I'm getting there.

now what does that have to do with being progressive? Is Starbucks systematically taking over the world, one person by one person? Personally I seem to be the only person on my college campus that doesn't drink coffee.

Well, you see, the Starbuckian Empire is trying to take over every street corner in the world. The only competing Empire, Pharmacies, seems to be losing this epic battle and so we should all just give in and allow Starbucks to hook us all up to giant machines that pump it straight into our veins. Nothing terribly progressive about it, but something that needed to be there among the masses of posts concerning suicide, the Jena 6, abortion, religion, and politics.

the environment is just a teensy bit pretentious to me....people clothed in back, the "intellectuals" banging away on their sleek thin notebooks that's most likely on their page of "facebook". I think we should stay focused on walmart. me and the hubby go every weekend because their prices are so damn low (on ninety percent of the things) but I alway go into a deep depression after seeing all those people and fighting through the aisles and waiting ten minutes to check out.

and pay 4.85 a pop...I was getting it everyday but I had to scale back, so I feel that pain.

My drink (Venti Percent White Mocha) costs $5.18. If I buy the beans ($7.99 at Kroger), I can make the same amount of coffee (and more) for WAY less. It's insane...but I love the environment Starbucks strives to create within their stores.

you're paying to sit and enjoy the environment? lol...what a different way of looking at it.

I'm paying for good coffee, don't get me wrong. But coffee prices have increased and so, yes, that is my justification.

I have 2 lab classes, as well. I'm trying to get a job at, you guessed it, Starbucks. It'll cheapen my habit to $10 a month...I'd love working there.

he thinks of me as his baby (i'm the oldest of three, and 20) yet he still has not opened his eyes to the fact that I am not in diapers (slight exaggeration but you get the idea) anyways, he also always uses my weight (or lack of weight) as an excuse, like oh how are you gonna work but I'm looking for work on campus...

ah, growing up can be a pain when parents aren't ready to let go, I know my dad made a lot of sacrifices for me but I also sacrificed not going away to college which ultmiately led me to drop out of...well lets say I missed an oppourtunity because my dad said no to dorms and housing ----hate unreasonable parents..
GOOD LUCK with getting a job at Starbucks

I totally agree with the amazing Starbucks environment. It is the ideal place to read a good book or argue with friends over politics and people-watch. I swear, I'm going to grow up and be one of those coffehouse junkies who sit and consider the philosopy of the universe. Or maybe just the philosophy of legal addictives like coffee. Now I just need to grow myself a strokable beard...

i love it!
:D

well, hmm....i have heard of addictions, but not quite like this. Starbucks, yes is indeed amazing, but expensive! i think however the IV's are a little extreme, but have fun passing that...one more addiction AMerican's have to fight...

Coffee is the most American drink known to man. Ever since the Boston Tea Party American's have been drinking coffee because the British didn't tax it. Coffee was simply cheaper. Over the years, coffee got to be a mainstay. During the civil war, soldiers would actually boil the beans and drink the boiled-coffee-bean-water. The things that American's have done to get their coffee would astound you. There's no addiction to fight; coffee's harmless.

definitely become a main part of American culture ^__^
it can be harmless for the most part but extremely large intakes of caffeine (coffee) is not healthy...so be careful coffeee/caffeine lovers ( i also love coffee/tea and other caffeinated beverages such as pepsi/coke/fanta)

I know the Aztecs had it and so did the Chinese, but you know what? It's an American drink. I may get my coffee shipped on the slow boat from Jamaica, but that's unimportant.

And you have to define "large" intakes. I drink enough to kill a baby elephant. And yes, if you take 5 caffeine pills at once your heart can burst, but you've gotta be stupid to try and get that much energy at once.

we have become obsessed with it but....okay. I concede, you want to consider it American, then it is :)

i said "extremely large" intakes and most people don't take very concentrated amounts, we dilute it and drink it in conjuction with other flavors/drinks such as adding cream to black coffee...some people are stupid to take caffeine boosts when they need to somehow stay awake or something....it's unhealthy to not consider side effects of taking in such amounts of caffeine/coffee .

Well, I guess there are worse things to be addicted to. Is it true that caffine will stunt the growth of a teenager?

I am 6'2" and still growing. My coffee (about 28 oz worth) is brewing as I type.

Wow, you're tall. Unfair.
I stopped growing before I even hit five feet two inches. After a year of not growing at all, I gave in to coffee's pull. But it's good for you too, so...yes! coffee.
Studies show that strong coffee shakes toxins off the liver and prevents heart disease. Some cancer patients receive coffee enemas with chemo so they don't get so sick. Chemotherapy does some bad things to the liver, so it helps kick the cancer!

Eww...*chokes* A coffee enima? Count me out for cancer. I'll take heart disease anyday to cancer.

Well, yeah...it's pretty gross, but pretty effective. I think if you actually had cancer it would seem like a better idea than it does just hearing it.
