Blogging, that is.
I suppose the point of a blog is to let other readers attain a little insight into one’s mind. For your first trip, I will talk about my viewpoint on technology in the classroom. This is not a random thought; I just got out of my technology class an hour ago.
I am a future teacher and will start my student teaching this coming fall. I am almost 32 and graduated elementary school in 1988. Things have changed slightly since then. One aspect we are currently learning is achieving technology in the classroom. Just from my research, I have learned there are those people who do NOT want any type of current technology in their room. Transparency was good enough then and it should be good enough now! There are others who believe technology is the ONLY way and do not see the need for any “old school.” I personally feel that both of these schools of thought are dangerous for the children.
My personal belief is that technology has its place in the classroom and needs to embracing. However, there is no reason why a child cannot be taught how to manually do things. People say that using technology is only expanding on what we already do, but if we do not use what we always have, then we are not expanding we are REPLACING. I also feel that educators should not assume that kids only what things taught to them using some fancy form of technology. While doing practicum’s (in the classroom work) I have taught using old fashion methods and the kids are intrigued. You really have to switch your methods up to keep them wanting more.
The biggest achievement is to find a balance of old and new and what works in your classroom for a particular assignment. Do not MAKE the assignment fit into a PowerPoint presentation just because you feel like giving one. Really look at all of your options and do what will be best learning for those children a t that time.
That is it for my first blog! I am almost done with school and figure “why not take you are the final journey with me?” Although I am sure I will have completely random posts here and there.
