This is a blog full of self pity and a tad bit of struggle with self image. Probably not progressive, unless working out my issues with myself counts.
I've been wondering recently why I don't get that many comments on my blogs. I look around and see blogs with pages of comments, with so many different people that have something to say. And then I look at my own blogs. No comments on this one, two on that one, and oh, look! This one here has six!
Usualy half of those comments are my replies to comments.
So I've just kinda been wondering. People here tend to blog about things I don't really know much about; politics, the economy, issues facing the world today. I read them, because they're informative, and oftentimes, the blogger has an interesting perspective. I learn from them.
But I don't really know much about the world and its goings-on. I know about what my community faces. I know about my own internal struggles. I understand the struggles of others.
I blog about what I can. I blog about what I know. I do my best to make them progressive. I actually take the time to put thought into the words I type, to try and present something in a clear light. When I'm confused about something, I'll admit it. When i'm passionate about something, I let my readers know that.
And I am a good writer. I'm not the best, but I have a budding talent for the written word. I never used to let myself believe I was any good at writing until I joined ProgressiveU. I blogged about my self-image issues, and in doing so, i'm beginning to overcome them. I can now admit that I am a good writer. I can still improve, but I have come far, and am capable of much more.
The first step to changing the world is changing yourself, ne?
But I digress. The point is, I don't get many reviews. I've been wondering why. And I think it may just be that I don't really fit in with the ProgressiveU crowd. I rarely have an opinion on an issue, I am no good in a debate, and my knowledge of the world is really limited. To be frank, I've spent my life under a rock, and I'm just now starting to crawl out from under it and into the world.
And maybe that's why I don't get many comments. Granted, a lot of people have been on the site a lot longer than I have, and have sort of built a following. But at the same time...I start to wonder when I compare the number of my reads to the comments.
Perhaps as I become a better blogger, I'll get more feedback. I'm still here, doing the best I can. And really, that's all I can do. I can't blog about something I have no knowledge of. But I can blog about the things I do know. And if not many people have something to say about it, then, that's alright. At least the comments I have gotten are all nice ones. So that's something to be positive about.
So I shall leave you all with a great big sigh, and the hope that I can become a better blogger through my experiences here.

Hey, if you look at my blogs from page one to whatever page I have now, you can see a HUGE difference. Some have one or no comments, and some have like 30 reads. Now I have blogs with over 100 reads, and sometimes about 10 comments.
I felt the same way at first, but I feel like the fact that I commented on so many other blogs, it made people read and comment mine. Not out of obligation, but just because. Also, as you keep reading other blogs, and writing new ones, in time you will learn how to capture peoples attention and write about issues that we can all relate to. Don't give up, just give it some time! :]

Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it. I'll be sticking around for a long while yet...this site is too much fun and too thought-provoking to spend my time anywhere else! And hopefully, I'll see an increase in comments...eventually...
And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.
After being on the site for about a year and a half, many of my blogs still don't get comments, and if they do, it's usually right around when I post them. It is disheartening, but I feel better for having spoken my mind in the first place. Just take a look at the first page of blogs when you look at my blog... the first two listed have 5 or 6 comments, the next one doesn't have any, and the rest are usually between 4 and 6, except for two which have 11 and 14.
I honestly tend not to comment on a lot of blogs that I read, simply because I want to finish reading them and move on to the next one. I'm trying to remember to rate them (simply because that highest rated list is entirely too stagnant for my taste), but I'm not always the best at that either.
Keep your head up. You're a good blogger.

Want the highest rated list to change? RATE those blogs, then!
I don't know the formula, either. I have a bunch of blogs that have only a couple of reads. I also have some that have caught fire. I don't get it. I'm always surprised, because the ones that catch fire are usually the ones I think will be overlooked. It makes no sense. I think catchy titles help.
But I always read yours, because I REALLY appreciate good grammar and spelling and some sense of style, which your blogs always have. So keep it up!

You have no clue how happy that made me, to hear that I'm managing some sense of style. Squee! One goal has been achieved!
And I really appreciate it that you read my blogs. It's nice to know that there are people out there actually paying attention to what I have to say. ^-^
And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.
I know what you mean! My most recent blog has over 500 reads... ALL my other ones are 100 or under. I only wrote it because it hit so close to home, and BAM! I really don't know how to make sense of all of it, but I agree that catchy titles help.

First off, this is not a pity response. I'm not writing this to make you feel better; I'm not really a warm and fuzzy person like that.
I'm writing this response because I agree with you. I don't ever get comments. But I get a lot of satisfaction out of commenting on other people's blogs, and starting a dialog with them. For the most part, they've been debates, since I'm not always an agreeable person, and pretty stubborn, but that's part of the fun, right?
You said that you only know about your own life and community because you lived under a rock. Well, this place is probably the best to get out from that rock, and by the way, your own feelings make the best, pithy material for blogging (which reminds me, I want to write a blog about my community after this...)
Oh, and interestingly, one of the reasons I joined this site was to open myself to new perspectives, strengthen my existing ones through discourse and debate, and improve my writing... it's been interesting, because my style of writing can be sophisticated, which sometimes isn't appropriate for blogs and the audience that reads them (NO, I'm not calling anyone stupid, it's just that blogs seem to be less sophisticated because they're much more casual). I usually try to find a balance between sophistication, readability, and casualness. So yea, blogging to improve your writing skills allows you to see how you write in a whole new light.
Not a pity respone. Got it. ^-^
I agree, this is a great place to come out from under my rock. I learn new things every day, meet different kinds of people, and it's all so much fun!
And I must say, blogging has improved my ability to write about myself. College application essays were awful. xD

Sweetie, you can think about almost ANYTHING and find a way that it's progressive if you look hard enough. TRUST ME! Take me, for example. Just today I wrote a blog about ROLLERBLADING! Who knew rollerblading could be progressive? Well I found a way! Read it and you'll find out.
I've got the same problem you have: I don't know much about politics or worldy affairs.
Do you want to know why we're like this? I think you and I are both still in the stages of making OURSELVES more progressive. In my blog, I said that we must first make progress in our own lives if we expect to make progress that can change the world. I think this is true of you and I. We're not at the worldwide stage yet. We've got enough on our own plates to worry about much else, am I right?
But little by little, we can change that. This site doesn't expect you to solve the issue of world hunger. That's too big a task for any one person to undertake. As long as we find the little things in life that are progressive, that counts! A little bit of progress goes a long way, and it's better than none at all!
Also, I feel a sort of guilt for not commenting your blogs as much as you comment mine. This website takes up a lot of my time. I'm either blogging, or messaging, and some days I just sign on for a matter of minutes simply to check if I have new comments or messages, and if I don't, I usually have something else that needs my attention. This is a busy time of year. Maybe during the summer you'll get more reads. I wouldn't take it personally if I were you though. You ARE a great writer, and I love how your personality shines through your blogs. I think that your lack of comments is simply a reult of people not having much time to actually sit down, read, and comment. I'm lucky if I find any time at all to get on the computer, let alone write a blog!
Don't take it personally though. Just be patient and keep blogging to the best of your ability. And if you need ideas for blogs, you can always look at the Topic of the week, or even Google something to blog about. I have every confidence in you. Good luck!

People here see me a lot for the same reason people on Fanfiction recognize my penname...I'm a huge commenter with no life. xD
And I blogged about politics a little! It was great! It was mostly about my lack of understanding and all, but it was neat to try something different. That's progress, right? Anyway, I've been getting a ton of comments the past couple of days...it's like I've suddenly discovered what interests people...either that or there haven't been any other more interesting blog posts recently.
And I have to say that I like your blogs because they're easier for me to relate to. So we must both be at the same stage of progress! Yay! ^-^ Thanks for the encouraging comment!
And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.
You know what? I was just looking around Google for whoever said, "Sometimes, we put up walls not to keep others out, but to see who cares enough to break them down" and I stumbled across your blog entry. I thought, "Wow, this is good stuff!" and I forwarded the page to one of my friends and told her about your blog. (The both of us can relate to a lot of the things you write about.) Then I joined ProU, knowing nothing about it other than your blog. ^_^
That was yesterday. Today, I'm going through all your posts...I'm going to get mad if you don't keep on writing!!
Really? I was found on Google? Sweet!
And I'm glad I inspired you (sort of...maybe? heh...) to join ProU!!! I'm also glad you can relate to my posts.
Never fear, I WILL keep on writing! There are a couple big ones coming out soon that I haven't had a chance to do yet because of a hectic last week of school...but I'm hoping to make an impact with them. One will be on abortion, and one will be all about my faith, in response to someone who's been pretty adamant that I should be atheist.
>.>
So that one will be empowered with emotion, that's for sure. ^-^
