Child labor

I have been doing research on child labor for a paper that I need to do. I never knew how bad it was until now. When we think of child labor, we tend to think of the kids putting our Nikes together or making soccer balls. When in all reality, that only makes up about 5% of child labor. Most of the children work in the fields or as domestic workers. Both are a very dangerous place for a child to be. Boys tend to be the ones in the fields all day in the hot sun. They have to carry heavy loads and work with dangerous tools. Girls on the other hand, are the ones who tend to work as domestic servants. They work 15+ hour days, most with out any time off. The girls are in danger of being physically, mentally and or sexually abused. These children have it rough. There needs to be stricter guidelines on child labor. These children need to be in school. Something needs to be done.

Something, but what?

Sometimes the kids have to work or they would otherwise starve. Would you prefer that? Child labor is only a symptom of a larger problem. Sending kids to school - while their families starve - isn't going to solve anything.

I never said that I wanted them to starve. There need to be more programs and more support for those programs so that the children can go to school. Letting them work the field does not make anything any better either. It just keep it going from generation to generation.

When I was younger I used to tell my parents I was going to report them for child labor abuse. I thought that cleaning the whole house or cleaning the yard was a lot of work. I never really understood how bad it is for these young kids. I agree that something should be done. The question is how would we fix it??? The families that send their kids out to work like this need the money. If laws were set in place that stopped the work then the income would stop also. I think it's totally wrong to work a child like this, but is there any other way for these families to survive? I'm pretty sure in most countries where this happens the government cannont support the poor.

Child labor is a consequence of poverty as hunger, homeless and others so is not as easy as we think. Even NGO’s and prominent individuals can not help eradication this issue until and unless they influence appropriate Governments to reevaluate the economic policies and rural economic growth. Till now rural economy is only known as agricultural economy and never emphasized on add-on value products. Governments have to consider growing and generating rural employment. Target set for 2015 to eradicate poverty may not be achieved until we understand roots and real causes of poverty.

90% of child laborers are rural children who migrate to cities and end up begging, prostitution, domestic helpers, or other odd jobs. It is easy to say “give them education and not work”, but the question is who will give? How many will benefit? Individuals and organizations have been helping these children for several decades. Have they achieved any result? Each day numbers and methods of child labor is growing.

In books or written records the number of child labor may have reduced but physically, it is different, and areas of child labors have added like begging, domestic help, prostitution, pickpockets, street entertainment, which was never there 2-3 decades back.
I herewith enclosed the video clips and my sites to know more about relationship between poverty and child labor issue.
