Apple Fries at Burger King?

According to a story I just read on CNN, Burger King plans to offer some healthier foods sometime in the future. But it seems like the meals will only be the kids meals; adults still will not be able to eat a healthy balanced meal at Burger King.

One thing that stuck out though that they plan to introduce is "BK Fresh Apple Fries." "The red apples are cut to resemble french fries and are served in the same containers as fries, but they are not fried and are served skinless and cold." This is a wonderful idea, but is it really necessary? Does it really take preparing the apples to look like fries and putting in the same container as fries to make them appealing? Why can't they simply serve the apples in a well-prepared way? It is slightly ridiculous what our society has come to.

According to a recent study, the brand actually makes a difference. Some people took McDonald's Food Packaging Papers and wrapped up carrots and brocoli and stuff and got kids to eat it and say it tasted pretty good...so, perhaps putting the apples in the fry bag is necessary.

Though, fried apple fries could be kind of tasty if done right...

Yes, I had heard about these studies, but that is exactly what I'm saying is absurd. We've come to the point where the fruit has to be placed in some fast food chain's wrapper in order for it to be appealing to a child.

But given the choice between them not eating the healthy food and eating the healthy food, I'd take the eating it.

Honestly, I would eat apples in any shape or form. But perhaps the whole apples shaped like fries thing is for a greater purpose. Maybe they plan to dip those apple fries in caramel sauce. Am I genius or what? :)

Wait, the apple fries are FRIED? I thought they were just cut to look like fries, I didn't know they were fried??!

I don't think they're fried...I was just saying that I'd eat fried apples...lol

My friend fries apples and she claims that she is really good. Funny...to get Americans to eat healthy they have to have all their foods deepfried in grease...

Not really. I like cold, almost-but-not-quite-ripe fruit. I have never eaten a fried fruit product, but if one was offered,I'd probably try it.

I agree that apples shouldn't have to be cut up like fries, but if it makes the kids eat healthy, hey, I'm all for it.

"A cactus is the opposite of a chair. In my house you can sit anywhere but there."

Why shouldn't they? I see nothing wrong with that.

The adults won't care about the apple fries. They have been addicted to this kind of food for too long. But the kids are still young enough to change. They are familiar with fast food and they can connect with it and recognize it better than anyone else. This may sound ironic, but they trust fast food restaurants to make their food taste good, so eating apples creates that psychological effect.

I think putting them in that container and cutting them like fries makes the kids feel like they are not just eating apples like they might be at home. I guess it might make it more fun for them, and they might not equate these apples as the same ones sitting in the fridge at home. I actually think it's a pretty cute idea if it works. I'm sure adults can order them too if they want. I've worked at fast food places, and you can usually subsitute healthier stuff, although it was rare that anyone ever did.

yeah, some foods are more fun to eat when they are packaged nice. Like the whole cheese in a bottle idea is cool! People like to eat because its fun! Would you eat something boring and delivered to your door on a trash can lid or would you eat something fun cool and different?

people should just start cooking more than eating out. it only take 30 mins to cook a healthy meal

WEll, define cook. In America, thats considered popping a tv dinner in the microwave and then sit in front of the tv. Its better to go out with your family in that case.
