What's wrong with America today (Part 4)

The environment... don't I sound hippie-ish right now lol. What can I say except that the Earth is going to explode at the rate we're going. The emense amount of pollution is staggering to the mind if you really think about it. All my life I had said "Mother nature rules! HEY YOU! RECYLCLE THAT! DON'T DROP IT ON THE FLOOR!" I took a oath in the 6th grade saying " I vow to not buy a fully gasoline powered car when I get older! I'd rather ride a bike!". By the 8th grade I said " I'm buying a hybrid car no matter how much it costs!"
I'm 17 right now, without a permitt because I'm too lazy to go get one. I still feel the same way. I have gotten a few of my friends to make the same oath as well, but you'd be surprised about how many people won't make that sacrifice. That's understandable in certain circumstances, but what are we gonna do now when the gas prices are sky rocketing and our economy is at a recession? Isn't it a smarter choice to save up for a hybrid than to buy an old, fully gasoline powered car? I think it's going to become apparent how smart it really is in a few years when it costs an arm and a lung to drive your car to work. It's time to care about the Earth a bit more is what.
Buying a hybrid is a very good start. But what about all the damage that has already been done? ATTENTION ALL PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THIS PLANET! LET'S ACTUALLY TRY TO REDUCE POLLUTION AND LITTERING BEFORE OUR EARTH'S TEMPERTURE GOES UP YET ANOTHER DEGREE! I know some of you may not think 1 degree is a lot, but it really is. This is the result of Global Warming of course. This country's oil industry is such a big facter in our economical stability, since we made it that way, that there is reluctancy to change. So many are reluctant to save up for a hybrid, or to carpool, or to just take the bus. We really should change our ways before mother nature comes at us with a giant wave full of "I told you so" smashing in our faces and drowning us in our own sea of destruction.
