Recently it seems impossible to get through a day without hearing some advertisement about global warming and the rewards for being eco-friendly. Just by talking to random people, I’ve learned that people are either really into it or they want nothing to do with it. If we all know the dangers of global warming and the numerous advantages of simply making a few light lifestyle choices, then why is there such a hesitation to jump on the green bandwagon?
Global Warming is defined as the increase of the average temperature on Earth. The Earth’s average temperature has risen 1° Celsius over the past 100 years. I realize that that doesn’t seem like a lot but in actuality, it is. The temperature has risen more in the past thirty years then ever before, and as the Earth’s temperature rises, disasters like droughts, floods, hurricanes and even tornadoes are becoming more common.
There is a lot of controversy over what exactly causes global warming, a great number of people like to think that human don’t have any effect on it when in reality, we do. There are a lot of causes such as the emission of heat-trapping gases produced by vehicles, power plants, and industrial processes. But similarly there are even more ways we can help repair the damage we collectively have done, such as simply carpooling or turning the water off when we brush our teeth.
We all can agree that global warming is a problem. There is scientific evidence that proves it. So what is it going to take for us to stop abusing our planet long enough to leave a positive effect on our planet’s future?
