This past week John McCain asks Barack Obama to do Town Hall meetings....Instead Obama said he wanted Lincoln Douglas type debates where one speaks to the crowd for 45 minutes than the other speaks. Group think brought JFK to almost blow up the planet and Obama truly wants to be like JFK. He even put his daughter on the Vice Presidential search committee

Obama's strength is to large crowds with flowery speeches. John McCain strength is engaging individuals and getting them to think.
Obama says he will be like Lincoln, Truman, Reagan,----HE WILL Not!
Barack Obama stands for nothing. Lincoln, Truman, Reagan were all hated when they left office just like George W Bush.
The one like these folks (Lincoln, Truman, Reagan) is not Barack Obama---but George W. Bush. Lincoln, Truman, Reagan and Bush all stood for things not some nebulous thing called change. Obama states the change he wants but like all non substantive, group think, politicians does not say how he will bring about the changes!
Barack says he will change health care, gas prices,
war, the economy, but without saying how he is going to do it is simply blowing kisses in the wind.
If Obama takes on the town meeting challenge of McCain he will lose for lack of substance.
Please do not assume by this blog that I am for McCain, There are bigger surprises in this election yet to come!

Actually, I think that group think is exactly what this country needs right now. We are so concerned with so many issues that Obama's quick and simple answers are appealing as opposed to McCain's long, drawn out ones that appear rather dry and bore people before they actually get to the solution. I don't think we will truly be concerned with HOW it's going to happen as opposed to WHAT is going to happen until closer to election time. This give Obama the opportunity to come up with an unrevealed plan that is better than McCain's.

If there is not a plan for how it will happen, it doesn't happen!
but that's not to say there is no plan, just not one known to the public.
like you said there are going to be bigger surprises to come.

plans for them all. Hillary did the same thing though....there are even bigger surprises to
come. Both The democrats and republicans are holding cards that will be played!
There is no connection between this and your very progressive, populist blog about the primary elections.
If there was, your message would highlight that Barrack Obama, in his interviews/books/speeches, seeks to involve the public in the decision-making process. It's not a Washington gig, but rather a bottom-up movement that reminds me of Jimmy Carter. Government with public oversight. Policy by thoughtful majority. I find that encouraging.
I'm worried that McCain espouses the same sort of top-down leadership that has characterized Reagan, Bush Sr., certainly George W. Bush. I will say that I'm impressed by the town hall meetings suggestion. That's a thoughtful idea.
Let's advocate town hall meetings in the lead-up to the election and substitute Lincoln Douglas debates for our current broadcast television debates. Can we agree that the moderated debates we see on TV make a mockery of public discourse?

I Agree that moderated debates are a Joke. Disagree on the top down. At best the top down
is down from Richard M Daley from Chicago. At worst his top down are th Clinton thugs running his campaign.
If you think Obama will make an end around Washington and politics as usual --OBAMA has not said how this wiil happen.
I'm afraid the bottom up view of politics simply doesn't work. Green Underbelly espouses the government of Jimmy Carter as an example of what is right with the American political process. I believe history will show that Jimmy Carter is and was a great person, but a lousy president. His hopes/dreams/aspirations were excellent, but his experience was limited, and therefore his decision-making processes were flawed.
When our founding fathers set in place a representative government and the electoral college, part of the reason was the masses of people in our country were uneducated and liable to make uninformed decisions.
Today, sadly, is not much different ... though a far greater percentage of our population is literate, they remain woefully uninformed. Uninformed people will be won over with flowery dialogue and oratorial skill.
A call for change is simply a meaningless mantra unless it is backed up with substance. Any goal without a plan to achieve it is simply an empty wish. Also - please remember - in most organizations, our government not excepted, the real work is done in conference committees and private discussions. The "conference committee" of our government is the congress, and the "private discussions" are the congressional committees. If you have issues with our current energy policy, for example, don't look to the president (who can help direct policy and holds veto authority that can be over-ridden), but to the congress and the energy subcommittees.
Research congressional voting records (which I believe an extremely small number of folks do, or even know how to do); you will find our energy problems were created there - not in the mid-east, not by "big oil", and not by the president. Folks - hold your congressional representatives (both house and senate) responsible! Find out what they voted on, how they voted on it, and, should you agree or not agree, let them know how you feel about their performance.
Most of all, get informed and stay informed. Don't buy party slogans and skillful oratorial performances - rather, buy solid ideas, experience, and realistic plans.
