I’ve never seen a difference in the color of skin. It never registered to me that some of my friends were a different race. That’s just the way I was raised. With the coming of the 2008 election which is sure to make history it makes me think. Is it possible to sling our society forward into a colorblind future if Obama were to become president? I assure you that I am not endorsing him I am just pointing out the possible positive outcomes if he were to become president. When fighting with my boyfriend over politics, we argued about all the world political issues. It then occurred to me that if Obama were to become president it could mean so much more then new policies and ways out of economic slumps. It could mean a shift in our culture. Unfortunately there are still many in the United States who discriminates on the bases of race. If Obama were to take the presidency I personally believe it would me a step toward a more accepting community. I’m sick and tired of hearing racial slurs and discriminating comments about someone different. The American people are most likely bound to have more respect for their fellow peoples of another color with a leader of another color. I can’t say that I’m sure it will go that way because it could do just the opposite, but I personally firmly believe if he were to become president we would see more peace among our races. The laws may be in place, the wars may be over, but there is still a major battle of the words going on between people of different races and having a president of another race may be just the thing we need to turn our culture colorblind.

Well, I'm not too sure that Obama becoming president would really help society to become more accepting of all cultures and races, but I do understand what you are saying. I hate that in the news right now they are calling this democratic race a race between a black man and a white woman. That is not what I see at all. I see it as a race between two candidates. I don't think race and sex even matter right now. It's Hillary Clinton competing against Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. It is NOT "Black man" vs "White woman"
I don't think being a "colorblind society" is necessarily a good thing. When I look at a person, I see their race because I respect it. I see an African American and, while their race has no affect on my opinion of them, I do think of the struggles they go through in their daily life. It is important not to forget that one is racially different. They should not be judged by their skin color, but to be a truly diverse and accepting society we must see their color and respect what it has to offer.
Just remember;
"Race has to mean something until race means nothing"
