This is what has all been happening with the Censoring of What's Eating Gilbert Grape at our school
Gilbert Grape has been removed from CHS ciriculum. This is blantant censorship and we must fight for the principal of the matter. Anyone who wants to make a difference should voice their opinion to staff, and particlularly administration. The only way to make a change is have a respectful, but more vocal and unified objection to these events.
-This book is available for check out in the library. Ask one of the Librarians. There are like 30 copies of the book. READ IT. Carry it around. Parade it in front of the administrators. It's a good book.
-Monday, November 20th, there was an article about the banning of this book from school curriculum on the front page of the paper. - A letter to Mr. Cordes asking for him to follow the correct procedures in the banning of this book is in the works. As soon as the letter is completed, we would like as many people to sign it as possible.
-Tuesday, November 21st, a story basicly summerizing the Carroll Times Harold article ran on Channell 8 KCCI news this morning, and is featured on the front page of their website. It has also now been spotted in Omaha, Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids newspapers, as well as Channell 13, and on Fox New's national website under US Headlines. The story ran on the 5 o'clock news on both channel 8 and 13. Channel 8 had an interview with Mr. Cordes and interviewed two students and two parents. Both parents and both students interviewed supported keeping the book in the curriculum.

Also, another Daily Times Herald article was on the front page. This article focuses on us, the students and alumni who are taking action against the ban of Gilbert Grape. -Friday, November 24th. Des Moines WHO TV posted a summary of the article that ran on the 22nd in the Daily Times Herald. There was also a Des Moines Register article on the front page of the Iowa & Metro section.
