Get this: one UK official has propossed forced, temporary sterilization of teen girls! Government minister Dawn Primarolo proposes “long term contraception” as an appropriate means of fighting teen pregnancy and abortion rates. She attributes the possibility to contraceptive jabs and implants which can last up to five years. No matter how safe it may be, this is still a medical procedure. Not only that, but the proposed age for the implants to be in place is between 12 and 17 years of age. Twelve years old! How can anyone think that it is reasonable to have a mandatory medical procedure, let alone one that is intended for minors!? What happened to people having free will over their body, and a little thing called consent? Under the proposed plan, even parents don’t have a say in the matter. Personally, I think that the procedure is a great option. But only when it’s left as just that—an OPTION! Allowing the government to require a medical procedure which invariably has risks is ludicrous! Sure, teen pregnancy and abortion rates will go down, but do the costs outweigh the benefits? My answer is no. Under no circumstance do I think the government should be mandating any procedure, especially one like this.

That's SO crazy! The government can't just take control of the lives of thousands of girls. And they think that will lessen the sex.? WRONG!!!! It's probably going to end up the it wont matter if they have sex because they won't get pregnant. But, they CAN get STDs! All sense of abstinence will be lost and the STDs percentage will rise. The invention is great, but should for NO reason be made mandatory by the government. That is just plain ridiculous.
One it's not fully tested, two it can't be healthy, three it's going to be pretty damn expensive. Somehow I get the feeling that minister is doing innapropriate things to young girls if she proposes this. Really only on girls? That's sexism, why can't we sterilize boys, they infect people just as much as girls and they can just impregnate someone and chase after the next. Whatever happened to the one-on-one talk with their own kid about sex? Irresponisble parenting, that's what happening in this world.
There are going to be people crazy about this! The religious backlash, the personal, you name it. Who is proposed to pay for these procedures? What if there are adverse reactions to the extra hormones and a girl has to get her contraceptive removed? How would the like to deal with that? Do they want the rates of STDs to go b/c knowing for a fact you won't get knocked up can make people frisky. This is such a crazy idea. Good thing it'll never pass.

That's pure fascism. Isn't it against certain religions to use contraceptives anyway? And to force such a thing against one's religion and one's will, is just unspeakable.
The government should NOT be one to decide on such a thing. That is, I agree, a good option, but to make it mandatory is ridiculous and pure idiotic. It's playing God, which human has no right or place to do.

The implant they're talking about using is an IUD (Intra-Uterine Device) that is placed in the cervix to prevent pregnancy. IUD's are used as long term contraceptives for adult women, but they create a higher risk of developing PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) as a result of contracting an STI. Infertility can be a complication a PID, which is why IUD's are recommended for women who have already had a child.
The idea of mandatory implantation of these in anyone, especially minors, is ridiculous and a gross misuse of government authority.

Colorado November Ballot Measure to Legally Define a Fertilized Egg as a Person
Um. What? Why?
What happens if this awesome idea actually backfires and ends up harming the girls?
By harming I mean, what if they want to have kids later in life and something gets screwed up and they can't? Whoa, not cool.
I don't understand people and their ideas sometimes.
What are they doing to sterilize the BOYS?
I love how birth control is almost always the woman's responsibility.
