Isn't it funny how people rarely look for the other side of the story? They don't tend to think about their potential to be wrong, or if the facts they are getting are purely based on popular opinion and nothing else.
To me, it seems like America is mainly anti-Bush and anti-war. Do all of those people even know WHY they are against such principles? People protest war because we are sending our troops, our men and women, across seas to fight for a struggling country. Yes, it comes at a financial and personal cost.
But who says America is the only country who has the right to be free?
My brother came back from Iraq last November. Where he went, he said that the Iraqi children would flock to the trucks whenever they drove by a town. It was, for them, a sign of hope and a better life. The innocent children saw that people were coming to help them and came running with smiles on their faces.
I know that not every person in Iraq is like those children that came running up to the trucks. I know that the battling Sunnis and Shiites don't appriciate American interferece, and there are plenty opposed to America's thought for a more stable, more prosperous country. But I think the fact that we are trying to help this country is something to be considered admirable and worthy. It doesn't warrent protest.
Bush sent our people over to Iraq, and I thank God that he was reelected in 2004. Had Kerry taken over the presidency, my greatest fear is that he would have taken the troops out of Iraq and Afganistan and wherever else in the Middle East troops were, and America would have ignored them as those countries' fall back into old ways, or worse. Then American would be blamed for their fall, because they had started to help and pulled out too soon.
People don't look at this side of the story. They don't think about all of the good we are doing on those Middle Eastern countries. People would just rather protest war, because it costs lives and money. The people of America, who are so privaledged to be born in such a country, do not seem to wish their privaledge on anyone else because of the cost.
Didn't our independence and success cost also? Why should we ignore those people who do not have the same strength that the struggling America once had as well?
Take time and look at the other side of the story. Don't just say you are against the war and Bush's ideas on the war without taking a moment to think about why we need to be there.

It has been my experience talking with people that are against the war, and I have talked to hundreds, that they can (and are more than happy) to give you reasons that they are against the war that have absolutely nothing to do with it being the popular thing to do (it being protest the war, hate Bush, etc).
We see the good that has been done, but we see even more bad. Is it really acceptable to for a little good to come at such a high cost to9 not only Americans but Iraqis? To watch it get better for one only to end in tragedy for thousands of others? I don't think so and neither do countless of thousands of others. Just because we don't accept that the good outweighs the bad doesn't mean we are blind. If anything, I think a stronger argument could be made in the opposite direction. We've looked at both sides and most have made a decision based on those facts,.
I'm curious though, why only single out those against the war and ask for them to look at the other side? Why not those that are for the war? Why not ask them to look at the other side as well?

In my limited experience those who are against the Bush war are partly gainst it because the reason we need to be there is not the reason we are. Also the way President Bush has gone about things has seemed more than shady.
Prosper might also mean something else to them and may not be wanted, some say we can not and should not force our cultural aspects on others and that this war should be done diffrently.
I would say more but Fallon seems to have pretty much covered it.

There are people with reasons for why they are against the war, yes. But to those I've talked to, they seem more against the idea of war, any in general, unless it directly deals with an American problem.
As for seeing more bad then good, of course we would. Only the bad really makes the news; they seem to look for the more tragic stories and ignore those of good. Good news is bad news.
I singled out those against the war because that deals with the majority of the people. I've looked at the other side too, the bad side. I know there's bad and it's no easy task. Yes, everyone should look at both sides.
I also don't think we are forcing all of our culture on them. We are trying to make them more stable so they can be self governing.
A question for both of you though: would you rather we just all pull out of the Middle East and leave the countries to their own devices? Staying or leaving: which would have a worse consequence?

I am a fool, but I will profess my beliefs to the world in spite of it.
I know what we are trying to do is good but they are trying to givern them selves by kicking us out. SOmetimes I think Right now that they are tryin to walk but they have a cast called the US holding them back. We are being to cautious and I think they will do fine with their new found courage. If we leave, they will quit trying to get ride of us, then the contractors wont be afraid and actually start to rebuild like they are suppose to. This is a nut shell. To stay or to leave will be an excellent blog to research. Today someone told me the government should quit interfering and left private buisness and humanitarianism take over. His arguement was legthy and sesible...I would do no justice to his passion.

i like the fact you are talking about this and gving your opinion and your opinion is biased. and So is mine. If you want mine, or whether or not you mine, I'll give it to you. Really, ask me about it, because i don't want to write a really long comment and then noone read it.
