Why I Volunteer

Why I Volunteer

As many of you know, I am interested in abolition. I had always wanted to do something good in the world, but didn't know where to start. Sometimes, I seemed to think, "What can I do?" I helped out every winter when my church offered the homeless a safe haven for a week. I helped beautify streets in my neighborhood, with my church. I am a very active member of my youth group.

But I wanted to do more. Which is, in a nutshell, why I started this group. My sister started a group called Students Against Human Trafficking. My group, Artists Against Human Trafficking aims to abolish human trafficking and stop domestic violence and violence against women. There are many groups out there that raise awareness for the cause, yet the problem persists.

That's why no one person can claim a cause as "mine". Ending world hunger, abolishing the slave trade, and changing the world is a team effort. There is no me, myself, and I involved.

I am involved in several causes. One of my all-time favorite charities is Amnesty International. Amnesty International does incredible things to better the lives of people around the world. You will no doubt find Amnesty at the forefront of the battle against domestic violence. Wherever someone in the world is in danger, or wherever someone needs help, you can count on Amnesty to be there.

I volunteer because, even though I'm not acknowledged, I'm making a difference. I volunteer because it makes me feel good about myself. In my opinion, volunteering is one of the best things a person can do.

Why do you volunteer? What are your thoughts on Human Trafficking? Please comment, or send me a message.

I really admire your outlook on volunteering, and that is the same attitude that everyone should have. A good deed done in bad faith is the same as not doing anything at all, in my opinion.

And what a coincidence that Human Trafficking was an issue recently brought to my attention, and it is something that I have been very passionate about as well. Could you give me a little more information on your organization? What kinds of things have you done to raise awareness? I think the more collaboration that humanitarian groups have the more people they can reach and therefore encourage more activism on issues such as this.

From her post. I tend to do that when replying to a specific section or statement to make myself more clear.

Human slave trade is part of the history of our country along with a lot of other horrible things. The positive is the power of one can make a difference.

I have started the group, though I am just getting my feet right now. I plan to use the money raised to help victims suffering from trauma and mental illness because of their experiences.

I took this post from my myspace site.

i actually really like that concept, because it's an approach that alot of groups neglect to take. most of them tend to specialize in getting the girls out of slavery (there's really no better word for it) but don't necessarily address what will happen to them afterwards.
