That quote comes from the infamous Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight. He said that in an interview with Connie Chung and later tried to retract the comment by saying that people were taking his words out of context. Most people would ask what other context you could possibly take it in.
Rape is a very serious issue in this country. Every two and a half minutes someone in America is being sexually assaulted. While in the past two years more than 787,000 women were the victim of a rape or sexual assault, the FBI estimates that only 37% of all rapes are reported and only 26% of attempted rapes are being reported to law enforcement officials. That means there were more than 2 million rapes in this country in the last 2 years. Does this make anyone else’s stomach churn?
On the other hand, I have heard of people who actually fantasize about really being raped. Some of these people (granted a very small number) actually put themselves in a position where they know it is very likely they will be raped. They may want this to happen because they enjoy this kind of sex. A few people like it really rough.
There are so many others who don’t actually want to be raped, but still have rape fantasies. One of the reasons is they are trying to fulfill the opposite side of their sexual nature. Having these fantasies would let a submissive man be a domineering rapist, for example. Another reason would be someone who has been sexually assaulted, or more likely sexually abused, would use rape fantasies to heal past wounds and work on their unresolved issues with power and control. I have heard of other reasons including an evolutionary relic dating back to prehistoric man who raped women to pass their genes on or the fantasy serves as a psychological device through which the fantasizer can safely indulge in an intense sexual experience without guilt, but I think those are bullshit!!
Regardless of what reason one might have a rape fantasy, they are in no way promoting or condoning rape, have a desire to rape others, or wish to be raped themselves. Or do they?
Rapists, almost without exception, have rape fantasies, so why couldn’t that be the same for the victims. Rape is a result of sexual issues at its core, but it’s mostly about power and control. Who has the power and the control? I had once heard about a woman’s self defense class that would tell their students that if all else failed, act like you’re enjoying what’s going on so you’re taking the control away from the rapist and he will loose interest. Really? So what the teacher is actually saying is, “If rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.”
A rape fantasy is not to be confused with a real-world rape, which is a violent crime, but wouldn’t women be taking the power back if they tried to enjoy it instead of giving the criminal the satisfaction? 69% of rapes occur by someone the victim knows, so it wouldn’t be that difficult to pretend you enjoy it. The victim could act out their own rape fantasy and ruin the rape fantasy of the rapist.
I think people could learn a lot from the rude, crazy, and politically incorrect Bobby Knight.

Thats a shame
What is???

"The bad thing is thinking you know the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth because it makes you close-minded and dangerous."
great way to avoid being raped: http://www.mouseguns.com/PocketAutoComparison.jpg
(Yes, evil, I know. I just think that rapists don't really need to breathe.)
Love it!!! That little gun would certainly be an unpleasant surprise for any rapist scum!!

rapist prey on those who can't defend themselves.
They are scum of the earth.
I always encourage women to learn to defend themselves.
pepper spray really doesn't work consistantly enough, and even with martial arts, one can be overwhelmed by an attacker.
God made man, Sam Colt made man equal. (Man being 'mankind' and not just the male of the species)
Unfortunately, if you use being raped as a reason for wanting concealed carry in NYS, many of the crappy liberal judges won't give it to you. You can't even get "real" concealed carry here anyway. My state sucks.
Depends on the area. New York State isnt easy to get a concealed carry in, but it is MUCH easier than nyc itself. The only city to have its own concealed carry permit system that overrides the state.
(In fact, if you have a new york state ccw permit, it is illegal to ENTER nyc with your firearm unless you also have the nyc ccw permit.)
And, while mayor bloomberg has armed security at all times to keep him from the criminal element, he denies your ability to.
Even Upstate NY doesn't have "real" concealed carry.
It's "sport" concealed carry. Not the same. I didn't even bother applying after I figured out the difference... damn I wish I still lived in Missouri.
Move. *grin*
There are good people in Missouri.
Oklahoma would be a good place too. heh.
I'm always pitching for people to move to Oklahoma.
It's almost like they don't women to be able to take care of themselves one way or another. How crazy is that?!?!? Having the gun doesn't mean you're going to use it or kill somebody. I think it would scare the piss out of any rapist just to have the gun pulled on them.

"The bad thing is thinking you know the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth because it makes you close-minded and dangerous."
Eh, I don't recommend flashing a gun just to 'scare' someone.
You have to keep a mindset of "If I pull this gun out, someone has to die, unless they IMMEDIATELY turn tail and IMMEDIATELY run away and IMMEDIATELY cease aggressive action towards me."
Giving in to rape and pretending you enjoy will probably lead to you losing the case in a court. Even if women do have rape fantasies, it does not mean WE ALL want to get raped in reality. Personally, you can say whatever you want until you actually become a rape victim, I highly doubt you know how it feels. Perhaps the fact that you are a man have something to do with your view. Maybe guys LIKE being raped and they give in when it happens. Either way, whether you're a guy or a girl, rape to me is something that can scar a person for life. If you enjoy it, good for you...I guess. Sometimes the rapist kill their victims right after it is done. If you don't fight back, your life might end.

You think. You think. I almost always love your blogs... but you lost a lot of imaginary points with me here.
I have to disagree.
Rape is not about sex. It's about power and control. There is no "relaxing and enjoying it" because plain and simply it's NOT ABOUT SEX.
I know you're trying to make your point... but reading this really made me sad (and physically ill). About the misconceptions about sexual abuse and rape, and how you could actually agree with Bobby Knight. Ugh.
EDIT: A decent blog (with comments): http://nancykersey.blogspot.com/2006/02/its-more-ladylike-to-get-raped.h...
Please don't think I agree with Bobby Knight on everything. I don't completely agree with this scenario either, I just wanted to put out there an alternate view about rape. My friend told me about the self-defense class and I remembered what Bobby Knight had said and that's how I put the two together.
I'm not trying to take the seriousness of rape lightly either. I would feel an unending rage if anyone hurt my wife or my girls that I don't know what I would do. I do know that I wouldn't give them the same advise that the self-defense teacher said. I loved your link, I would much rather them have gouges in their hand and the scar of the rape itself.
There are misconceptions about rape, and I probably have some as well. The only thing I can do is research and read and try to expand my knowledge and understanding.
Thank you.

Please PM me some of your questions. I'd really appreciate hearing your "misconceptions" so I can help others.
It might give me a good way to go for a blog that isn't all "Don't blame the raped, blame the rapist." or make it seem like a "victimized" blog.
