The real me.

Since I've yet to post a blog telling you all what I do with my life...let me do that now....

I'm a huge nerd...lol...I do debate and speech and that's my life...seriously it's all I do.
I've done several different forms of debate and speech each with it's own level of success...
My sophomore year I got started doing debate b/c it was a class requirement to compete at least twice...I did student congress which is basically like real congress...you speak on whether or not to pass bill and resolutions...I did bad at first but progressively got better...I ended up qualifying for nationals in Dallas...then I got pushed into doing speech...I did Domestic Extemp...basically you get a topic about a current event and you have half an hour to research and memorize a 7 min. speech. I ended up getting 3rd at sectionals to go to state.
Last year I did public forum ( a partnered event debating current issues like lobbying)...I didn't have too much success but I really liked it...I continued doing D.X. and also picked up impromptu (you get a word, quote, or current event and have thirty seconds to come up with a 5 min speech)...I ended up winning sectionals in both events....then I qualified to nationals in D.X. (impromptu doesn't qualify to nationals) in Kansas...I ended up getting 15th at state..
This year I did Public Forum again with a partner who had just started...we ended up getting 1st alternate to nationals...we only lost to one team...by one point...and they deserved to go...I ended up winning speech sectionals in both my events for the second year in a row...and I qualified for nationals in Congress again...and this year it's in Vegas...
We have state in two weeks and I'm really excited...my coach really wants me to make it to finals this year...and I must admit being top 7 in the state would be amazing...
I have made some really great friends and met some amazing people through speech and debate and it's made me such a better person...
So that's my life...and I plan on continuing speech next year...so I'm never gonna get away from it..

Sounds like you're having fun, and pouring your heart into something. Good luck with your speech, etc.

Public speaking is nice, because you have a lot of opportunities to influence people. I did public speaking at different venues in high school and college. I was able to teach people about organ and tissue donation, domestic violence, teen issues, college, and you name it. Take advantage of this opportunity while you can.

That's all very nice, but you're really not supposed to post those kinds of posts. :p

it doesn't sound like you're a nerd to me at all. there's no way i would have the courage to debate in nationals and all the other places you've been. it sounds really cool.

thanks...yeah when I started I was really scared...but I found passion in what I do...I just wish more kids could be passionate about things most adults don't even care about...maybe then things would get done in the world
