This really irks me.
REALLY irks me.
There are so many topics being debated...so many issues politicans push that really DON'T matter.
All these issues are used to garner votes...such as:
Gay marriage.
Abortion.
Selling Alcohol on Sundays.
Finger Pointing.
Legalized Weed.
Issues that DO matter...
Education- America's is falling...
War in Iraq- this needs to be resolved sometime
Renewable Alternative Fuel- We can't rely on the Middle east forever
Welfare- got to fix a cracked system before it becomes a nightmare
Social Security
Prison Reform- so many kids sitting in jail for possession, being housed with real criminals
Foreign Relations Overall- we need to reestablish credibility in the country
...just to name a few...
Any more issues?

Maybe those issues don't matter to you, but they do matter to some people...
I agree the American education, welfare, and social security systems really do need more attention.

Global warming: we're pretty much waiting for the world to be destroyed until something happens to prevent it.
I'm sick of all these debates about some of the most pointless issues (well, not really pointless, but still stupid nonetheless).

I like how most of those "issues" are invoked on a purely religious standpoint. I remember when Mr. Marsh donned black the day after the 2004 elections, "in light of," he said, "the ensuing theocracy." Everyone in the class, including me, started laughing. I didn't realize at the time just how true his statement was.
It's kinda sad when polls show that being a strong religious person is a more important quality for the president of our country than intelligence (intelligence actually ranked last on this list).
Healthcare: We have the greatest technology and treatments in the world, and spend more of our GDP than any other country, but among developed countries, we have the lowest life expectancy. There are millions of Americans uninsured, and even more underinsured. We need to reanalyze our entire system, rather than just try to patch it up.
