I am not a Prostitute

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I finally caught the BET special Hip Hop Vs. America and I must say I was very disappointed. My main reason for tuning in was to hear what the rappers defenses would be to the demeaning images and lyrics of women in Hip Hop .The rappers on the panel were rappers T.I and Nelly. I felt these were perfect representatives not just because of their success in the hip hop industry but their past offenses against women. The reason I was soooo disappointed was because both of the rappers continuously diverted the questions to everything but what I felt was too be said, which would have been for them to acknowledge that hip hop does play a huge role In the degrading of not just African America women but women in general. This is something that I feel very powerful about ;therefore , It will take more one blog to express my opinion but to start off I want to discuss  lyrical content. Everyone has freedom of speech and most definitely artistic expression but can the following lyrics really be seen as art? You decide these have been edited for formality reasons also this is not the entire song because there is soo much worng withing the song that it would divert from the topic at hand:

Real girls get down on the flo' on the flo' [8x]
(Like a Pimp)

[Lil Flip]

[when we walk inside the club guys] hold they gal's hand
Cause they know we run trains (choo choo) all night
How could yo gal leave me
And be wit you all night
But its all right
Cause you know we don't kiss
Like Too $hort said
Bit**es aint shit
I tried to told ya
Dat most girls really freaks
And dis is how they gotta
make they money every week

Real girls get down on the flo' on the flo' [2x]
(like a pimp)

[David Banner]
Step into club looking just like a pimp
We got cash
So we screaming out "shake something BI**H"
This is the song
Tell the DJ put it on
Micheal Tyler made you shake
Sisqo made you show your thong
Bitch im dead wrong
The playa from the crib
So get out on the flo'
And girl get it how you live
And since you so hot (hot)
Then show yo pu**y lips
Go to Tugallo, but I know you still flip
Bi**h don't trip
[David Banner]
Or you can catch us at E&G pouring it up
Flip whipping Cali trucks
Guls li*king my n*ts
We some south side pimps
And we aint giving a f**k
F**k yo gul up in the thr**t
And make her sw***ow the n*t

[Lil' Flip]
We make em
Sw***ow the n*t so
Follow the truck
Lil' Flip and David Banner
We got all of the butts and
All of they sluts and
All of the h*es
So drop it like its hot girl
Touch yo fu**ing toes
Oohh

I will not comment too much because the song speks for itself  but I want to point out a particular group of lines:

Like Too $hort said
Bit**es aint shit
I tried to told ya
Dat most girls really freaks
And dis is how they gotta
make they money every week

Now I don't know the type of girls you hang out with but the last time I checked MOST girls were not prostitutes .

and this is onyt the first blog on this issue because I feel like there is soo much more to be said

MIchael eric dyson, a cometator on the speacial, came to my college, Purdue, and gave a brilliant speech, and included this very topic. he went about how all women are bitches and hoes, and how rappers shouldnt mae the exuse " these are just the women I know"

You actually brought up the point I was going to make tommorow. The defense it is only one woman does not uphold because:
1.) Many rap songs make generalizations.
2.) Unless you actually say Ms. XYZ then no it is not. It relates back to the concept "I'm every woman"
For me personally I feel insulted anytime a woman is called a hoe.The best ideas ever conceived never made history because they were never expressed.

I also wish I could have been there to hear him speak. : (

It is sad that in this day and age men cannot appreciate the women around them and the beauty they represent. Not the "hotness" or the "sexiness" but true beauty.

reallistically, this type of music is what people like to hear, Al Sharpton could scream and holler all he wahts, but it will continue to bring blacks down, if you want to make a statement about rap, hip hop artist, or anything about the black community, say something positive that's true. you probably cant even think of one thing because you've been told lies about stereotypes that bring blacks down. just take the truth and what's real, and roll with it. uplift our people. that Real Talk.

No I have to take it serious because I'm tired of seeing 12 year old boys running around yelling "hoes and trick" without getting the full understanding.Theres nothing cool about it. I see how it affects people I know how it affects me. The best ideas ever conceived never made history because they were never expressed.

I don't feel like you really said anything. You should consider adding more to your blog. I want to know "so what?" And you can't blame the rappers. They sing what their writers tell them to sing.

Yeah I did mean to finish that blog.LOL.. I don't care who prompts the lyrics I don't care the whole life imitating art and all that I just feel like music such as this has a negative effect on women.Basically I wanted to pull out a specific song and show how just one song can affect one girl.I just never had the chance to finish it. To answer your question. So WHAT? So some little girl is gonna hear that and take those words literally.A lot of people want to say pregnancy rates are rising and women are more promiscuous and people are quick to point a finger and label a young woman a slut or whore but I strongly feel that things such as this play a role in the negative development of women.

Thanks for explaining that to me. I have to agree with you. The women are blamed as promiscous but they can't be promiscous alone, what about the guys that are too? Why all this negativity about women? Why is it cool for guys to be pimps but slutty for a girl to be promiscous? They should be treated equally.

If Black people degrade each other why would they expect that people of other races would hold them in any degree of respect.

Its time for blacks to start holding themselves to some higher standards.

It's time for EVERYONE to start holding themselves to higher standards.

If we respected each other, there would be no such thing as racism. I don't know, though... I'm one of those who thinks there's no such thing as racism. :X

On me not believing in racism?

There's no doubt it exists... but it is in everyone's heads. The "oppressed races" change over time... hell, if you look back far enough, the Europeans were hated in Asian countries.

Racism is formed in peoples' heads because for some reason they get a negative connotation of a "race." To use black people in early America as an example, since everyone knows about it:

No one hated black people... in the past, African countries were some of the most powerful. But in the 18th century on, the US started buying slaves from Africa because it was economical. Those people were slaves, which is a negative thing, and so people started getting this negative view of black people... then stemmed racism of those people.

We fear that which is different from us, but it really is all in our heads. Talking to a person totally objectively you'd never know what race they are based on their articulation.

I don't know anyone's race here unless they've outwardly expressed it. I'm rambling so much... please let me know if this doesn't make sense, and I'll try to explain when I'm a little more awake. This is poorly written and kind of confusing, sorry.
